This is the first Christmas in a long time that I have been by myself. I really miss shopping for the woman in my life. I always came up with presents she wasn't expecting and surprises that made her happy. I actually enjoyed that more than opening gifts that she got me. Am I just retarded or has anyone else felt this way?

No...you're not retarded....I don't miss the shopping because I HATE to shop...
but I miss the other activities associated with Christmas...making snow angels in the
snow..building snowmen...playing in the snow and throwing snowballs at each other..
the drives looking at all the Christmas lights...you get the picture...hang in there!!
Last year was the hardest for me due to breaking up right before the holidays...but life
is too short...it gets easier as time passes and you'll soon find someone to fill the
void.

You aren't retarded. I hate shopping. The guy I am with is lucky if he gets anything, actually that is the same with anyone I know.

I liked to start early, not that I love to shop by any means, but would pick things up as I spotted them. I just found it quite a challenge to surprise her with something we might have seen in a antique shop or on a trip that she didn't even know I bought. I just enjoyed doing it little by little and by the time December came I was mostly done.

I think that is sweet liketheoutdoors that you like Christmas shopping for the woman in your life. I've always enjoyed giving than receiving as well. Just the thought of him opening up something that I saw and thought of him at the time I bought it gets me excited. I still think that way but now I buy gifts for my 9 year old son. I am enjoying it while I can before he becomes a teenager and then nothing I give him but money will do I've heard the stories from others out there about teenagers

chopper.... It's all about how you raise them... I've heard the horror stories too! but I am willing to bet - you are a good mom! And your son will know and understand what is important!

Blessings to you and your son during the holidays!

I kind of feel the same way, but then I think about it. My soon to be ex-wife used to count the number of gifts that she received and then complain if someone got more.

Giving....
thank goodness there are men and women that like to give...
Give *of yourself everyday, and give a gift when you feel like it*...
not just on Christmas and Birthday. Makes for wonderful relationships.

Knowing what will please a person, and bring them joy, shows that you care about them,
enough to really think about a gift. One size or color does not fit all...
