JMO, but if a lady says she only wants to be friends, she means just that. She does not want a relationship, and usually doesn't even want to date the person she said that to. It can also mean, if she is just trying to be nice, that she is just not interested in that person. She may not have felt any spark, or feels there is nothing in common. Need more info to pin it down completly.

I know if I tell a guy I just want to be friends that can mean one of two things.

A: I think he's a great guy but either there was no spark or there is some reason why I could never consider him for a long term relationship and while I don't want to lead him on I do enjoy his company and conversation and would like to remain in contact with him.

B: I not only didn't feel a spark but he annoys the crap out of me and I'll be polite if he calls in the future and I'll make polite conversation but not stay on the phone with him for long which should give him a clue, and if he asks me out again I'll just be honest that I don't feel any real spark and want to pursue other options.

Call her and if she greets you warmly on the phone (meaning she actually sounds happy to hear from you) she does truly want to be friends because she obviously likes you as a person but if she avoids your calls, tells you she's on the other line and will call you back and never does, etc. then she's not feeling you at all.

On the other hand Friend

WORD HISTORY A friend is a lover, literally.

The relationship between Latin amicus “friend” and amo “I love” is clear, as is the relationship between Greek philos “friend” and phileo “I love.”

In English, though, we have to go back a millennium before we see the verb related to friend.

At that time, freond, the Old English word for “friend,” was simply the present participle of the verb freon, “to love.” The Germanic root behind this verb is *fri–, which meant “to like, love, be friendly to.”

Thats too bad. We have yet to meet but get along great. The physical attraction is there for both of us but I would like to think its just because of bad relationships in the past. Also because of all the scams on here. But if I knew everything I wouldn't be here in the first place. Thanks for the quick replys! Wow!

I guess its better off being friends than to never know her in the first place. I'm not having any other luck on this computer anyway so I'll stick it out and see if I lose interest.

iwantyou_2 - Hit it on the nose.

Think of "wanting to be friend" as getting to first. Now you need to prove you are worthy of being more than friends, by action and NO WORDS.

When you chat with her, tell her about your dates and how you approach a particular woman. Make the stories funny and witty.

Here the most important thing you should do: Make her feel like she not worthy of being your girlfriend. Constantly tell her in a kidding way, she too short or tall for you, too mouthy or too quiet, too sensative or too brash, SHE CAN'T HANDLE A GUY LIKE YOU...

Point is you need to make her say.."I could make you happy" OR "If I was your girl".

I have changed women minds of just wanting to be friends, by doing the total opposite of what most guys do. Which is to beg, plead, and try to convince her that they could make her happy.

Don't do that...do the opposite. Make her feel like she let a great guy get away. Once you got her telling you that she the one for you...DON'T let up. Don't ever agree she is right until you to are where you want to be. Because at first she will be just testing you to see if you become boring again.

It is a game and it is up to you to decide if you want to play it or not. If so, you got to first, now it up to you to steal the rest of the bases. Remember it will not be the first time you hear thoses words "Let just be friends". Here is a chance to learn how to change that. Even if you fail, you'll learn something. Most guys who plead for another chance fail. I suggest you don't try that method. She probably said thoses words because you have been pleading enough already.
