Just wanted to tell everyone that I relapsed and am smoking AGAIN.
To tell the truth this has ben going on since I was 16. I smoke off and on.

I really can't quit. i think everyone will say,"Don't give up.". I have and accepted the fact I will always smoke.

I am happier smoking than not, then stopping all the time to just start again. I am an addict. I am sure there are others out there. I would like to hear from all that actually like smoking,or can not quit.

Get off the brainwash train.
Stop feeding tobacco companies.

If you could just control ita little, it wouldnt be so bad.

hang in there, talkalot!!

nicotine is a very addictive drug, but I think that over time, we become addicted to the motions(taking smoke breaks, reaching for one out of boredom) and other sensations that smoking provides as well.

next attempt, if you have a good support group and a padded room you will do fine!!

talkalot,
I just quit back in August and I miss it soooooo much! I completly understand where you are coming from. Medically I need to quit so I just have to stop! There is no way I can continue to smoke, I have to have a surgery to repair my back and it must be done soon and I cant smoke in order for it to heal properly. BUT.... Its driving my crazy. I constantly reach for them and smell them and when I see someone smoking I crave one... I must be strong..... I have had three surgeries and this 4th one must heal right so I cant smoke!!!!!! So smoke one for me girlie!!!

I think the reason people find it hard to quit smoking, along with other bad habits, is that they set unattainable goals from the get go. They set themselves up for failure.

Smoking is addictive. We know this. And a few, very few, people are able to find the wherewithall to stop cold turkey. But this strategy is not going to work for the bulk of the people trying to quit.

First off, stop listening to others who are trying to get you to quit.

Second, if you are going to quit then you must really WANT to quit. But do it in a smart way. This means do not try to do it cold turkey.

Why? Because what will inevitably happen is that you will go 3 days, 3 weeks, or 3 months and then in a weak moment you will light one up. And what happens then? You go into a shame cycle. And start to smoke again.

If you are smoking 2 packs a day and you decide to quit and go 2 weeks and then in a weak moment you smoke a cigarette you have not failed. But people would like you to believe that you have failed, and ultimately you feel that you have.

Quitting should be done slowly, and realistically. Smoke 3 less cigarettes a day. If you smoke 2 packs a day then just smoke less than 2 packs a day. And work your way down.

Slowly. And allow yourself a treat once in awhile.

Don't bash yourself. Reward yourself.

It can be done easily by weaning, and rewarding yourself. Not by setting impossible goals and then feeling ashamed because you smoked a cigarette.

Bill

What does this have to do with dating?

I think smoking is gross and quit in my early 20's. I never admitted to myself I was quiting I kept a full pack on the top of the fridge as if I could have one any time.

Later in life I had a child with asthma and I am grateful I do not smoke.

Go to your doctor they have things to help now a days.

yes, I am and bi-polar. No excuse just letting you know not to make such quick judgments. often there are other reasons for addiction.

exactly! That was brutal, jeez!!! I was a smoker for 23 yrs when I quit, it was very hard! If you really want to quit you can do it, but it takes a strong will, and hard times!! Lots of patients for you and those around you. My kids threatend to move out (no kidding, bags packed- called their uncle and everything!) I quit with medication but everyone is different.

bi-polar explains alot.Nicotine calms the brain down for a few minutes.People that are easily stressed are more prone to smoke. You need to find a natural way to relax.

Smoking is the WORST addiction to quit...

I watched people go through it, and I felt bad for them BUT they did it!

Although I am not a smoker...I know it's hard...

I started smoking again, after 3 years. I've got a pretty addictive personality and that's why I'm usually very careful with ANYTHING, but I thought I could have JUST ONE, which is usually not the case for smokers who have quit.
That first one was the most enjoyable cigarette of my life (started at 13) and triggered the smoking thing all over again.
That time, I quit for my future wife (we were getting married, next day) not for myself.
I really do enjoy it, and even though I know all the risks, and that it really is a stupid habit, I really don't WANT to quit.
Good luck to you.

I loved loved loved smoking! I also like paying my bills on time. Money is scarce right now and that has been my motivation to stay quit. I'm saving money like crazy! I'm sending all that extra to my credit card and will have it paid off in January and will be debt free. Once I started looking at the bigger picture and the fact that I'm doing nothing but making the tobacco industry very wealthly I quit.

I also LOVED smoking, sometimes foregoing food for cigarettes.I don't remember how many times I tried to quit, but could'nt stay stopped and figured that they would bury me with a carton of Marlboros. However, between seeing a friend die 6 weeks after being diagnosed with lung cancer,my lungs starting to hurt pretty bad and coughing for hours after going to bed,I said enough is enough. It took 2 months of gradually weaning myself off cigarettes, but it's been 8 years now. What pisses me off is,even after 8 years, cigarette smoke still smells SO good that if I hung around with a smoker,I would probably relapse.....

no offense but this is general discussion it says general topics not related to dating before you click the link. theres another forum for general dating discussion. you might as well go to 90% of the posts on here and say the same thing.

im only 18 and i've been smoking since 14. i want to quit so bad but it's very hard, if you've never been an addict for anything you'd understand how rough it is to quit for good. nicotine has been proven to be more addictive than herion.

I smoke but only here and there. If you can commit yourslf to smoking every other day.....you'll notice that you can start skipping 1 or 2 days past that. I know becuase it happened to me. If you dont give a shit about your health and wanna die early then I guess smoke away lol

Wonder why you put yourself through the experience of thinking that you are going to quit, would think by now you would stop fooling yourself.

Maybe it's just a phase that occurs every once in a while where you take your health seriously.

My best friend's parents smoke like a chimney. Both of them. I spent a lot of time there. Then I worked in a bar with crappy ventilation. I lived with people that smoked.

Went to the doc yesterday, found out I have a chronic illness which is caused from a sensitivity to cig smoke. A lot of my friends smoke and I physically can't be around them anymore. I also have to carry an inhaler for the rest of my life. I don't smoke, yet I am only 25 and having to suffer medically because of others who smoke.

I truly wish everyone who is trying to quit the best of luck, because life would be easier on a lot of people, including you and your wallet. I hope you can get back on track!!

Keep up your spirits. Talk to your physician. Start a yoga class. Not all methods and means work for each of us,
I have learned. I quit cold turkey because I met a great man who did not smoke, and I wanted him to kiss
me without smelling that stinky smell. I have not smoked since, not once, and never crave it. I am betting that
if you tap into one of your passions, you could (with a little help from your friends) ease out the addiction. Where
there is a will, there is a way! Believe it.

There are degrees of addiction. I've smoked off and on for 45 years. I quit once for five years, but I'm pretty sure I temporarily lost my mind, got divorced, hated the world, then slid back into smoking. I am a total addict, two packs a day when I smoke.

I quit for four or five months, then smoke for a couple of weeks. I live in metro Atlanta. There is a cold laser that's u sed on acupuncture sites that immediately free your cravings. I can quit when I want -- and I think that might be why I slip back.

Where do you live? Google your city, laser, quit smoking. Quitting is easy, staying quit is hard. By the way, the quit treatment is $200 in Atlanta.

A good friend of mine had success using the patch and even the gum.

It took her a year to really beat it, but she has been smoke free for about 12 years now.

She claims that her biggest motivation was financial. Cigarettes have become a lot more expensive since then, so use whatever motivates you.

On May 2, 2005 I had a severe Lung infection that nearly took my life.I spent 21 day's in ICU. I was a heavy smoker for over 35 years. I was in the Social Scene, as part of my profession. Everyone smoked, but when i got sick, I was told that if i continued to smoke, I would be dead in 6 months. I never had another ciggarette untill last Monday. How stupid was that. Shit happens.I am really pissed at myself.

Don't get pissed at yourself. I have a friend that was told he didn't have long to live due to severe puluminary disease. He is on Oxygen even. He can't quit either.
We are addicts, just as if we were doing heroin.
I don't say keep smoking. I just wanted to say I understnd. I think all the breaks I take has saved me. All organs,(including lungs, respratory, puluminary etc... are normal.
good luck

I am glad you can relate. but, we are not sick. We are true addicts. I have alot to deal with between bi-polar and disability in back and neck. there is no cure for ither.
I am not making excuses, but I think in the back of my mind I say, "Well, I'm going to die or be paralyzed early in my senior yrs anyway. I might as well enjoy what I can. I find that pot helps alot with my depressive side and anxietys too. I smoke that only at night and not very much either. It helps.
