My children and I will be moving to Montana in March. Some of you may remember a couple of weeks ago when I said I was going through something very difficult. Well, neither my daughter nor I were impressed at all with the high school here. There were many reasons, but an example of one is that she completed an entire quarter of school - all honors classes - and was not assigned not even one research project in any of her classes.

We felt that she needed to attend a different school... but I do not have the means to put her in a private school down here and couldn't afford to move my family so that she could attend a better public school. In the end, as tough as it was, the decision was to send her to Montana to live with family and attend school there.

She's been there for a week now. She took a math test her third day there - and failed it. Her math teacher is impressed with her and thinks she can handle his class, but told her that it doesn't appear to him that the classes she's been taking down here would be considered "honors" up there. She's been in the "Honors Program" since 4th grade. Anyway, it's going to be a struggle for her... but she's a smart girl... if anyone can handle this, it's her.

Meanwhile, the other children and I are just hanging out here in Georgia until I can afford to move up there, which I expect will be in March.

Just thought you'd all want to know what's been going on....

Thanks, I will continue to chat w/ my GA friends. Ya'll are such a great group of people. I NEED to make sure that I attend at least one get together before I leave so that I can actually meet you all. But there's still time for that.

It's a little scary to pick up and move in this economy... leaving a stable job for the unknown ... but it's just time to go back home. I may end up waiting tables for a living... but that's okay, I've done that before and can do it again, I'll do what I gotta do!

All but one child is excited and ready to go NOW.... the one who is a little apprehensive is my 13 year old son, but he seems to be coming around and adjusting to the idea. He's at a tough age... change is never fun... but at 13 change is HARD!

I noticed a few weeks back that you joined montana chat - thought it was strange at the time - but it makes some sense - now! It sounds like it will be tough for you but may be the best thing for you and your kids - good luck with everything and I wish you the best!

Belle, I actually grew up in South Dakota. But I have family in South Dakota, Nebraska, Minnesota, Wyoming and Montana. (Thankfully, none in North Dakota... you have to watch out for those folks!) LOL! Anyway, I chose Montana because the schools there are really good and because there are still some job opportunities there... at least for now... hopefully there still will be some by March!

I also have family in Texas... I hear it's warm there... you'd think I'd have chosen Texas! What's wrong w/ me? LOL Na, you're right... I miss home and home is in the good 'ole Midwest.

Hey Rich! LOL, you keep telling me to come home and I keep telling you that it's too cold up there! Not exactly moving "home"... but closer....Guess my kids have a way of making me see things through rose colored glasses....because I can't wait to get there! Still not looking forward to shoveling my car out of a snow bank before I go to work though! It's going to be nice to be closer to my family, especially my Dad... in 15 years, I've only seen him twice - each time for only 3 days.

On our way to Montana, we'll have to drive right through SD and the kids want to eat a Buffalo Burger at Al's Oasis in Oacoma. You must meet us there!

I *think* it's the Badlands.... but I could be wrong.

Styx... soon you will know someone who lives in Montana, so you can come visit and see what it looks like. I'll be in Great Falls - in the north central part.

Candy... I'm not leaving till March... plenty of time to do lunch again!

Bunny... Neat that you were born in MT! Do you ever visit your family there?

Kathy, you are so funny!... I was just thinkin.. I think I could still saddle a horse?? Been a while for me too. Hey, have you ever held a nice pocket contest for those wrangler butts? Some girls at my last job used to sponser contests on thier nights out! I was married then.. and had my own nice pockets to watch walk accross the yard. You gonna be comming through SD on your way to Montanna? How far into Montanna are you going? Wishing you all the strength a single mom needs to do what she has to do!

Hey Bonnie: On the rare occassion that I do see a Wrangler butt down here, I just want to follow the poor man around for a couple of days.... not sure how well that would go over though, so I've never tried it. I've sent out a disclaimer to all my family and friends up there that if I try to go home with a Cowboy the first time that we go out dancing (found out that ya'll still dance up there!! OMG!!)... anyway, told them that if I try to go home w/ a cowboy, to just let me do it...(Cause you know I'm gonna go flipping crazy in a bar full of cowboy hats, rivetted Wranglers and boots!) OMG!! Is it MARCH yet????

Wish I could dance ALOT better!! Then maybe I'd have the guts to go to a dance once and get "teenaged goofy" over a guy in jeans and boots again! All I could say is "Lord help me!" Im to shy out in public anyway! Anyway Kathy.. About that moving North thing... and scooping snow again... Does one ever get used to? The only time I didnt mind it was when I had a Suzuki king quad with a blade on the acreage.. Just get yourself a good pair of coveralls(insulated) and stay warm while we struggle with the white stuff!

Coverall!! I'm laughing right now!! I had forgotten all about those! I really will have to get a pair, won't I? I've told my kids stories about wearing insulated coveralls and buckle overshoes! My feet are cold just thinking about that!

And... I usta-could dance.... it's been so long though.... I'm kinda shy in public too... but I used to LOVE to dance and I was pretty good back in the day.

This morning on our way to school, the children were talking about our upcoming move to Montana. They were talking about how they are going to have to shovel snow in the cold. I told them that I'd buy them some insulated coveralls. They all asked, "What are coveralls?"

And did you tell them that they are the most unflattering peice of clothing but keeps you from comming apart in the middle... no bare mid-drift... burr. Those good lookin hunks with nice pockets wont be able to tell if we are male or female in them either!! Which reminds me.. Back when I first started dating.. I was outside "playing" with my little sister.. building a snowman or something.. I was wearing coveralls..stocking cap ect. and who comes un-announced?? My first boyfriend! How embarrassed I was but it didnt seem to bother him.. I changed clothes and we still went out.

I have been all over western Montana & northern Id. It is some of the most beautful country in the world. Its weird you have the beautiful deserts of Id. then it just stops at the mountains of Mt. other than W.V. It is by far the best place iv ever been beauty wise & people are still people xcept they talk kinda funny.

Good luck Kathy
