| Having grown up in California, and having been the son of two minorities who were liberal democrats, I grew up believing that the left was the place to be if you cared about the downtrodden and victimized.
If you were a racial minority, you were worthy of my support, because whitey abused, raped, robbed, and enslaved you either literally or figuratively. If you were poor, you needed my liberal friends and ME to defend and feed you. If you were gay, you were to be defended and tolerated....wait...not JUST tolerated....ACCEPTED.....wait..not just accepted....CELEBRATED for your lifestyle and courage. And, my leftist ilk and I were there to make sure your message got out. If you were a woman, *I* was your feminist champion! And, I would gladly sleep with you to prove it, just so I could make sure I called you the next day to prove how different *I* was over those neanderthals you had been with in your past.
A little over a decade or so ago, I started seeing things taking place that looked to be in direct conflict with the popular notions of the liberal left in America. I started to pay closer attention to subtle diversions from the positions that the left had so nobly and proudly declared to be theirs alone. (Since then, I have come to view that nobleness as more of a cheap sanctimony than anything else).
Now, having re-thought my social and political views (being the open-minded guy I am), and having observed the left over the past ten years or so, I have noticed that the left's move from their previously touted "monopoly" on "goodness, mercy, compassion, open-mindedness, and tolerance" (cough cough), has gone beyond the "subtle diversion" of those characteristics and morphed into an outright hypocritical abandonment of them.
Gone are the days when leftists could sanctimoniously vomit their political correctness all over people who they saw as "homophobes" (don't you just love that word?- I have a cool word, too....vaginaphobe). Gone are the days when they could call ANYONE a racist with a straight face.
Over the past decade or so they have shamefully given way to their own bigotry, racism, hatred, and intolerance. It festered in them for years like a cancer. How painful it had to be for them. Can you imagine their suffering and anguish???
Finally, they just could not hold it in any longer. They finally found a way to let all of that hatred, bigotry, and intolerance out. Somehow, they have fooled themselves into believing that they can still not be a homophobe, while calling their political foes f*ggots and homos. They are convinced that they are NOT a bigot or racist, as long as the minority their castagation is aimed at is their political foes, like Condi Rice, Chief Justice Thomas, and others. They have so crossed their wires on their own moral compass that they are no longer able to even look at themselves in the mirror and actually see anything. (By the way, a friendly mention to our white liberal friends....stop calling black conservatives "Uncle Toms", "Aunt Toms", "House Negroes", or anything else. YOU don't get a pass, you jackasses. It doesn't make you look like you're "down with brown". It makes you look STUPID!)
I saw this coming. Somewhere around the mid nineties, I started to see things more clearly. To this day, I am glad to have come out of it with my intellect and character in tact. And, I really don't think I left the democrat party or the liberal left. To the contrary, they left ME.
You see, *I* wasn't the cameleon. And, I would rather be a "jew-beaner-f*ggot" than a leftist hypocrite, any day! I must say, I like being a recovering liberal much more than the modern-day version.

| Interesting perspective, But I do think the libs then weren't much different then now, no they just use more extreme methods. but the ideology isn't really different, you were just involved in it, so it seemed as though you were helping, when in fact you were somewhat enabling the lib groups they are, you were only looking at what you thought was the humanity aspect and not the total control dominance at which was there goal, they use your feeling to further along "their agenda" that is why it works pretty well, and enslaves many.
I'm mean nobody wants to see people homeless, etc etc. but when many of them don't even try to help themselves, it makes you feel like all the things you are doing are in vain, because alot of the times they start to expect the help you give them, instead of appreciating it..and that is where we are today(welfare state)

It isn't evil like that. The fact is simple. We are an experiment. No nation like the US has EVER been attempted in history, so there is no template to observe. We simply do NOT know how democracy or capitalism will turn out, because the experiment is STILL ONGOING.
Tbhis much HAS become obvious. Conservatives and Liberals just can't stand or tolerate each-other anymore. The mutual loathing is blindingly obvious, as seen by luiberals blaming Bush for everything in the universe, including aging and the laws of hydraulics, and by some conservatives actually showing up at tea partyies with GUNS, they want to kill Obama so bad.
Tolerance is gone, virtually NO ONE is going to switch sides or moderate thier views....and this union may indeed be doomed. It split up before. This time maybe BOTH sides will want to seceed.

I believe I said "some", and some DID show up brandishing gus...at a political rally. They did NOT need to think Obama was there in order to demonstrate thier hatred.
I suppose YOU can give a good reason to bring firearms to a protest, of course.

The only gun I saw at a town hall meeting was a really big gun carried by a really big black guy ---- but you only saw that on Fox.
CNN led everyone to believe it was a crazy white tea partier...and although it was a big scary gun, they said it was legal and licensed.
