I have been sitting thinking about something.

If we had a meet up, say next summer, in the middle grounds of the us -- how many of you would really make the trip??

Well if its more than 8 hrs I will have to fly or take a train that is about as long as my body will sit in a car. I might depending on where you do it at. I do think its a great idea though. Go for it! Who's town are we taken over?

That's a great idea! It would be allot of fun meeting everyone! I'd be interested and would certainly try to make it but need to know when and where first so I could plan accordingly. This sure gets a big thumbs up from me.

Try to figure out where and when by the first of the year so we can all plan vacations around it and start saving and making travel reservations. I definitely love the idea!

Falalal Yahoo has been doing this for years. I have told this many times in the threads. When I was really involved in yahoo chat in the early 90tys they planned this sort of thing all the time.. It was wonderful. They had them in myrtle beach, Nashville and other small areas..The one in Nashville would draw anywhere from 100 to 200 people. They had them there 3 years in a row. We would get a big hotel to give us a group rate. Most people stayed in that hotel. We would have breakfast together. Then go see the sites. Then meet up at the bar or other planned things. They would usually have a planned fun night..It was a blast.Hell we had two people from England show up..
I am not saying to do Nashville but some place that is interesting where people could do some site seeing or fun things. We made it a 3 day thing. Those of us that drove a far way or flew enjoyed the mini 3 day trip. Count me in.. Hell I have been to TX OK FL NC NC TN and the ocean lol..

Geographic Center of the Lower 48 United States

Name: Geographic Center of the Lower 48 United States
Category: Cultural
Archive ID#: KS3129

Description: A pyramidal stone monument with a brass plaque claims this site as "the Geographic Center of the United States" (the monument was installed in 1940 before Alaska and Hawaii joined the union). The site was endorsed as such by the Coast and Geodetic Survey in 1918, despite the crude process by which it was determined: the shape of the lower 48 states was cut out of a cardboard sheet, and balanced on a point. Though the Geodetic Survey would later regret making any official declaration, this early endorsement was enough to enable Lebanon's Hub Club to claim its center as official, beating a few other competing communities for the title, which, it was assumed, could lead to considerable tourist revenue, and literally put the community on the map. But the tourists only trickled in to this remote place, and the new motel closed in just a few years, and never opened again, though the Hub Club maintains the park at the site, which includes a small, mobile chapel with four pews.
Location: 158 miles NW of Topeka, near Lebanon
(POINT(-98.583068847656 39.833322799504))
(show on map)
Address: KS
Smith County
Visitor Info: Heading north from Lebanon a few miles on Hwy 281, turn west on Hwy 191 and follow it one mile to the park and monument. The former hog farm (which was actually determined to be the center point) is three quarters of a mile further west on the dirt road. Note also the nearby Hub Dairy, the farm built in a day.

this looks like a bit of a desolate place...not sure there is much to do there. but im sure DH'ers could find plenty of trouble to get into no matter where we meet up

Financially, would be somewhat of a problem, but with time to collect, possibly. I'm not a good driver out of my elements and probably couldn't afford to fly. It would depend on if I could ride with someone within close proximity for me to meet them somewhere. But I would definitely want to, if at all possible.

I think you should all come to Branson!

A little incentive?

I would consider it if everything is central, say, east of the Mississippi. I travel the road for a living and ain't no big thing. A full service hotel (restaurant, lounge, etc.) so if you hit the bar you wouldn't have driving /police challenges!. Sure, why not? nows the time to do the homework. PPP (Pi** Poor Planning = Pi** Poor Product) or something like that!! I'm in,Tom

For good airfares leaving from an airport near you go to airfarewatchdog.com - they find amazing fares. I found a flight to Germany for $438 - half price.

Won't sell Chicago as site because it is too expensive and besides we are still licking our wounds from losing the Olympics ... NOT

Ken has been looking at campgrounds in the southern GA, AL, northtern FL area for next spring or fall.. maybe summer (hot) We thought it might be a good time to gather some special people who live too far away to join us here.

We sure do get the same ideas often these days.

I would LOVE to do this!! Already did Branson and would go there again, but I'm open to anyplace. I have a pop-up camper that can sleep 8 or 9, if ya don't move in your sleep. Anyone interested? You'd sure be welcome!

Someone had mentioned a meet in Florida in Feb...... is that still on? I'm hoping to make it to that one!

Tax, you sure won't be disappointed to meet Elly in person.......... she's such a COOL lady!

Last Sept., I took the adventure of a lifetime to make it to Branson. Just me and my Missy (the dog) in my old Caravan. We spent some nights in campgrounds and slept on a mattress in the back of the van, also stayed in cheaper motels, but I visited my siblings in Cincinnati, Houston, and Florida panhandle, too, with Branson in between OH and TX. Took 5 weeks, 3,500 miles, and hit 15 states. (That was when I decided I needed a camper!) I'm ready to go again, so this gigantic meet-up would be PERFECT!!

It does appear that MO. or Kansas is central on the map. Something that we did in the IL group was a survey that told how many lived central, northern, southern IL and who was interested in coming then depending on how many signed up depended on which part of the state the gathering would be held. 63-68 members attended last year just in IL group. Now with that being said how public on Dh do you want to advertise because I am thinking your gonna need a whole farm.
The other thing I am seeing on here so far is this: Are we all getting together to get to know each other or get together to site see? Two totally different things in my mind. I will share an experience I had, 10 of us showed up at a members farm for 3 days and we played cards, horseshoes, cooked together on an off a grill, we camped in tents had a big bonfire shared stories, listened to music even had fireworks. During this time spent together everyone was able to visit with one another as there was no where to go or be at any given time we were already there. The time spent was to get to know each other, interact with each other, even able to step aside for some one on one, share each others interest etc. Heck found out the guys whos farm we were at was an accomlplished piano player don't think we would have found that out if we all were on the run.
Just trying to look at the big picture here just my personal thoughts what do you think?

Oh an by the way 2 of the people are still together today and none of us had ever met each other before. Time is of the essence.

pink

i would be most interested if a group meet was planned that is more centrally located giving some a better opportunity to drive in. also a meet and greet to get to know each other on a more casual basis would be my motivation. i, personally do not need to be on the
go constantly and alot of 'sightseeing' would add to the cost, which i probly could not
afford.

That was a price quote for 2, Huron. Now, depending on how many per bed you have in mind it could go up substantially!

That is very inexpensive may have to rethink what I already posted. LOL Sleep in a bed or sleep on the hard cold ground?? HUM As long as there is slack time for visiting etc I don't care where it happens, the bed an warm or cool room does sound good. I know I know we are not getting any younger right.

Elly Good idea and tons of fun in Branson! And what's that saying Elly? What happens in Branson stays in Branson or something like that? So, if Branson is the place, no tattling what happens there. Hmmmm ... think Lambert's can handle all of us? This is sounding more and more fun all the time. And wherever we end up meeting, the place will never be the same.

Missy, I can't remember the name of that forum right now, but it was the one Dustin once suggested we should use for Meets. I went there a while back and he had a thread that said from now on just post them in your own State chat forums, so I think you have this exactly where it belongs to have a Universal DH Meet!

I just wanted to maybe suggest one thing. If and when you really decide to get this thing going, and after you get ideas and decide on the place, you might want to start a new thread about this Universal Meet (lol) cause the heading here, might not get all who might be interested to look in.

Man oh man, if it was here in Branson, all I can say is WOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOO! But wherever the majority chooses, I will still definitely try to work it out. Hopefully the date will be right after the 2nd Wed of the month, though, so I can afford it.
