| I was invited over to a friends tonight. My best friend and her husband include me in everything, but they don't realize it is hard for me being the 3rd wheel, tonight they were including me and my kids in a New Years get together, I hated to say no for my kids, but I just couldn't find it in my heart to go there would be three couples, lots of kids and ME. My kids and I went to a movie instead. Am I the only one who HATES not having someone to go places together and not feel "ODD"?

| no i had the same sort of invite, my neighbors and good friends were doing the same thing with families and kids, and i backed out too. My 16 year old daughter is at a party and my son left for Navy boot camp two weeks ago today so not really up to being the 3rd, 5th, or 7th wheel either, have a happy anyway!!

| I too was invited out tonight to a party, was thinking of going until I learned my friends were trying to hook me up with a man they invited for me to meet...I am no one's token single woman.
Stayed home with my dogs instead. And that is fine.

| Sorry we are all in the same boat, but I might have gone for the token deal... My friends haven't tried that, they are so sweet to include me, but when it is special nights like New Years EVE, I just can't bring myself to do it... Usually I am just the odd one... and I always have a good time, but watching everyone else give that New Years Eve Kiss gets harder and harder each year.

| I go when invited, if I can. Your not a 3rd wheel, your a friend, I invited friends over before, I do it cause there my friends, and I enjoy be around them.
I know its hard to now have someone, but maybe there would have been a guy there to meet.
Maybe you would have stopped on the way there for gas and ran into tje guy for you..
Who knows...

| Shoot I'd go and have me some fun... It's not like everyone will be sitting around necking and there you are nobody to neck with..lol...you never know when you start talking to one of the spouses and they may have a friend or a relative to fix you up with. People limit their outlets of looking for a mate too much I think. I met a guy in McDonald's once, we sat and had a cup of coffee and then dated for almost a year. I was going in McDonald's and he was leaving. He said something cute to me and I said something funny right back to him...that started it all...Ya just never know...don't pass up on an invitation if you can help it...broaden your avenues and never resort to just the internet for looking for a mate. You never know where you'll meet him/her!

| no ive got a couple who are married-always draggin me with....i finally quit goin-tired of being the 3rd wheel...i just stick to my single friends now...its hard enuff without it being rubbed in your face all the time...
i agree with you heather-but all their friends are creepy/family also...so i just keep in contact by phone now....

| I HATE THAT!!!!!!!!! It's as though you're the only oddball in the room who couldn't find somebody just for the night! But weddings are the worst! They have to squeeze a ninth person at a table for eight or stick you alone at a table in the corner. Really, I try to avoid occasions as you describe, weddings, parties, all that stuff. I hate to sit there by myself and have people feel sorry for you -- no matter how much noise you make; and at any affair I'm usually the loudest guy in the room. And in a way that makes it worse, because I wind up drawing attention to the fact that I'm the only one there by himself. It's the most awkward thing I can imagine.

| Thanks all for you support last night. I spent today with my friend and her husband. We working doing some remodeling together and ate lunch together. My mom always said that what ever you do on the first day of the year, you will do all year... Guess I should get use to being 3rd wheel for at least one more year, and perhaps doing a lot of remodeling work too...

| I don't believe in that old saying... about what your doing you'll be doing all year.
I try to make the best out of all situations... doesn't matter if I feel like a 3rd wheel. But I do know what you are saying. I just turn things around if I start feeling like I'm out of place.
