kinkycapitalist Atlanta, GA age: 55	Hot off the wire from "woman's world". A little counter balance to all the "Where's love" threads. I am so inept at this dating thing. I am a recent widow, I want to find the next adventure in my life. I have met some really nice men, only a couple of jerks. But, I am not sure if it is my age group or if I am just not doing something right. My problem is that I have met 4 men out of the bunch that I really really liked. We did the email, text, phone, then meeting for lunch or coffee, then dinner etc. (Not seeing them at the same time, this was a succession of hook ups.) I was interested in each of them and was looking forward to getting to know more about them and ease into something more serious. Then WHAM each one just jumped the gun, they want to get exclusive far too quickly. They want to use the "L" word and bring gifts and get serious. I mean sometimes after the second time we met! Is this something that men in my age bracket do? (Men 58 to 65) What is wrong with me? Some of these men are the perfect package, but they just want to rush things. I was married for 35 years, so I have not dated since Watergate, and I don't remember men wanting to form committments so quickly. I think that when we're younger (20's and 30's) women have a tendency to rush into relationships (particularly that first marriage), but that's because of the ticking biological clocks, family pressures and peer pressures... As we age, we feel less pressure than we did before. Our reproductive clocks have wound down (or had the works removed), our families aren't pressuring us, and most of our peers have at least one divorce under their belts. Many women are feeling the freedom to explore lots of things, from relationships to lifestyles to creative outlets, and are less enthusiastic about giving up that newly found freedom. But like the woman you quoted, I too have found that men have tried to rush me into a commitment before I knew their middle names, their favorite colors, boxers vs. briefs...
