| Why do we all take advatage of our significant other. What can we all do to show more respect to our loved ones.
Respect is an assumption of good faith and competence in another person or in the whole of oneself. Depth of integrity, trust, complementary moral values, and skill are necessary components.
Respect adds general reliability to social interactions. It enables people to work together in a complimentary fashion, instead of each person having to understand or even agree with each other every time.
Respect means a lot of different things. On a practical level it seems to include taking someone's feelings, needs, thoughts, ideas, wishes and preferences into consideration. We might also say it means taking all of these seriously and giving them worth and value. In fact, giving someone respect seems similar to valuing them and their thoughts, feelings, etc. It also seems to include acknowledging them, listening to them, being truthful with them, and accepting their individuality and idiosyncrasies.
Respect can be shown through behavior and it can also be felt. We can act in ways which are considered respectful, yet we can also feel respect for someone and feel respected by someone. Because it is possible to act in ways that do not reflect how we really feel, the feeling of respect is more important than the behavior without the feeling. When the feeling is there, the behavior will naturally follow.

| Well said. . . I was recently asked, "what's more important, respect or love?" My answer was you can't have love unless you respect the other first.

I believe that you have to earn respect. You cant keep respecting someone even after they did you wrong. It becomes a game of being used and the respect is useless and gone.

| You always have to have respect for others or you have no respect for your self. If someone did you wrong respect the fact that you cant trust that person and get out. Once you lose respect for somenoe the relationship is over, and the longer you stay the more you disrespect yourself. You deserve better!!!!!

| Some people are just greedy, selfish, and seek self gain by having the "all about me" and or "ego" problem. these same people will be quick to say what they want in a mate, and want respect given to them, yet cannot take the plank out their own eye.

| I think you need to respect yourself before you can respect someone else. The same thing goes for love. Respect Yourself - Isn't that a song title..maybe sung by Aretha Franklin?

| I know that most of what killed my prior relationships was related to a lack of respect from one or the other of us in varying degrees.
I am trying to take the experiences good and bad from my past to attempt to shape a better future, even if it is alone.
