Hi MJ:

I always respond to emails/winks. What I have found is that my response is sometimes not read as I had intended; communication in this venue is complicated by not having visual or verbal clues to augment text. Well, there are these ‘smiley’ things....

I don’t use winks as they seem ambiguous to me. If I don’t know what it signifies when I receive one (other than someone has some level of interest in my profile) how would someone know my intent if I sent one?

I do read profiles before I respond; believe it or not there are some scammers out there. More importantly, I like to have some sense of who the person is when I write a note. I do keep in mind that a profile has limited value in judging the true personality behind.? ? ?

it's just immaturity and/or stupidity. they don't realize you've saved them time and that they should thank you for not answering in a friendly way, so as not to hurt their fragile little feelings, even if you gag at the thought of being with them.

alas, the world is awash in these pathetic little people. there's not much you can do but block early, and often, and report the abusive ones. there's no excuse for it.

I suspect that your negative reponses are out of frustration and hurt feelings. Obviously everyone here is single (in theory) and have been hurt. I am sure we all feel a level of rejection and frustration after working up the courage to send someone a message. How an individual deals with those feelings is an indication of their character and or maturity. Consider your initial rejection of those people good instincts if they lash out after you turn them down. I have only recieved one reply to any of attempts at meeting someone, but I am grateful to that person for being honest. I do wonder, however, if people are a little hasty to make a decision about someone based on an internet profile without having any contact. You or I wouldn't accept a friend request or chat with someone we don't know, but at the same time is it fair to reject a message without knowing someone? Maybe it is a fundamental flaw in internet dating, people make a lot of decisions about other people online without ever talking to them.

I don't respond to winks, they don't seem serious enough to me to respond since they didn't email. I too, have tried the route of saying "No thanks" nicely, but get the nasty email, so I find myself just deleting the ones I'm not interested in. I'm not on here to hurt peoples feelings. With the exception of a few introductory, very nice emails from some of the males here, I will write back thanking them, and then tell them good luck in their search.

Girlwithdog,
A wink, is cute. I love to be winked!!!
I just wink back. I do not think that winkers expect any answer... or they would send a message!!!
It's like saying "hi, 're you doing" in the elevator...

wink wink

(I am trying to put my winking here!!!)

Exactly my point, but I can't nod back, and I don't see the need to wink back if I'm not interested. I find it a huge compliment, but if they were truly interested, they would send an email as opposed to a wink. In the beginning, I was responding to winks, only to find that there wasn't a response to my emails, so I stopped.
Oh yeah...nice wink lol

Only little kids throw tantrums and dirty rocks at people who don't respond or pay more attention to them. Just be glad those idiots don't live next door to you.

I agree, I've gotten some very nasty comments from men. One man asked for my phone number after IM'ing back and forth for about ten minutes , I told him I was not comfortable with that at this time and he just exploded on me via email...I was shocked!
I mean we could have been cool until we both got comfortable with each other...but I'm not giving my personal information one minute before I'm ready. Ten minutes usually wont do it for me...now I may give you an email. But I just ask that they please be realistic..
