I went to Mardi Gras in 1979. The police, bus drivers, and trash men were on strike so they had the festival in the suburbs (Metairie). It was a lot of fun and definitely crazy but I always felt like I got ripped off because I never got the full flavor of the celebration.

I was at Mardi Gras in 1985. My brother and I were just walking around in the French Quarter when we happened into an area that made us feel kind of queer. I'll bet it's the same section where that guy in your photo is requesting guys to show their d*cks.
I said to my brother, "I don't think we're in Kansas anymore".
We weren't! We were surrounded by gay men.
We made quick exit.
