| Today is Memorial Day 2008. I thank all those that gave up their lives that I might live my best, free from harm, or, from harming others. I pray for a peacful America but am aware of our potential to war. I pray that in the coming year, we can choose a leader whom is truly aware of a path to world peace. Tyranny and corruption must be addressed here at home before we can expect the world to not scoff at our premise.
---------- War -----------
At peace, a world is gliding on in calm serenity,
We seldom stop to wonder what this means to you and me.
We go our way each rising sun, nor contemplate of woe,
On rise of tide, our cares beside, our loved ones safe we know.
Then spreads the cloak of nation's hate, with swift intensity.
Fear throws in his cantakerous hand and greed demands his fee.
A grasping beastly foe, we're told, is stretching talons wide,
And overnight, we join to fight, a thing that's mostly pride.
A bugle's blare, a martial pace, a heartache quickly stilled.
Cold regiments of gleaming steel, as heart on heart is thrilled.
The bridegroom kisses bride goodby and daddy kisses tot,
As off they proudly march to war, to stench and swill and rot!
On sea and land, death's ghastly hand will grope among us there.
For virtues strong or failings long, pain and death will little care.
A hero's grave may be your lot, or coward's fall, your fate,
The choice is little, in the end, for man to contemplate.
Raise up the iron heel of might, the might of right 'gainst wrong!
Stamp out this blight on man, called war. Let days of peace be long.
Knock gently on the hearts of men, bid fair to enter in
And in the glorious aftermath, a realm of blessed peace begin.
