| You know if you get a phonecall from someone you will generally be told who is calling.
Don't you think it only proper for someone who sends an email to give you at least a first name? I've even had some give a first name only later to find out that it wasn't even her real name. Is it me or is this just the new thing to do? I know it's just an email but are people forgetting that there's a person on the other reading it?

| I use my screen name, until I really get to know someone on here. Then first name only. Safety reasons.

| I haven't received scads of emails - but, it seems to go both ways. Sometimes a gal will sign what I believe to be her real name at the very first contact - other times, not. After two or three, I usually sign mine... sometimes, sooner, I guess...

| Hi Bill: sometimes i find it weird that emails are never signed by name and/or by user name esp on this site even on 1st contact--you get this response and i'm not meaning a wink (i don't answer to winks in most situations because in my profile it says not to wink and if they do i know they didn't read every line and word of my profile)
it seems like 2 reasons people may respond back 1) because of what you wrote in your profile 2) you, yourself esp if you provide pics (again profiles are like resumes and just maybe while you get an email from someone, how many other guys in our case do too are being reviewed by this same woman while she's on the PC searching...I'm sure woman wonder too what's in a guy's head too...in my situation i'm sorprano but they know that esp from the 1st moment they search or whatever way they find us, it's by user name but i will sign my name Bob in most situations immediately back or pass on the email too...

| I brought this up in a roundabout way a few days ago. I'd like to see us all type our names at the end of our posts. It's hard to keep everyone straight in your head, at least it is mine, and if I have only been in contact with you once or twice, I still forget names at times, so I do wish that we would find a way to figure out who is who. After all, if we were meeting in person, I wouldn't expect you to call me "dreams". Thanks,
Brenda

| I share my first name only with people that I have an ongoing..or suspect I will have an ongoing relationship (on this site, or in real life) with them. There is no need for every person reading my posts, to know my first name...to the lurkers, I am Lotus3..to a first email contact from someone I am not familiar with through this group...I am Lotus3..when I share my first name with someone I am comfortable with...I have no problem being addressed by it, in a post...but would prefer Lotus3, for the mere fact of Lurkers....I do not run around the streets of Venice...waving hi to everyone, and announcing who I am.

| I only use my real name in private messages after I learn more about them. I feel safer using prxf in postings because I never know who is reading them. I try to be as cautious as possible.

| I agree. The internet can be accessed by anyone. Not all may be benign. We are warned constantly to be careful and that's what I intent to be. I have often been in situations that could have turned out badly but have listened to my inner gut and so far have kept safe. We don't want to be so scared that we won't try new adventures but we can try to exercise caution.
