Although my imperfections prevent me from always being able to obey it, to me, the golden rule remains the only thing taught of applicable value in the bible. Everything else, I have observed, is just a corrupted or outgrown guantlet leading to the golden rule.
Golden Rule: Treat others as you would like to be treated.

If You_____________then____________happens.

Fill in the blanks with a behavior and event which you feel has been a corrupted or a proven falsehood of religion, or, an absolute applicable truth if you feel compelled.

Example: If you (Praise to God) then (eternal life)happens.

Example: Pay your exorcist, won't be repossessed.

Sorry, I would like this to be fun too. Chuckle.

P.S. I just realize that it would be preferable if you show us which you believe about it. Thanks Krupa.

False or just funny
Truth or applicable

I decided quite some time ago that i couldn't go along with the g-rule...Too many perverts in this world that would treat me as they would be treated!!
and i ain't goin for that!

"My rule", treat others as they need, if it is healthy and beneficial for them. Sometimes that means saying, no, go clean up your thinking and actions, let me know if you need help.

I never thought of the golden rule that way before Skunkbreath.
Isn't that how you would like to be treated? ie.. How you need to be, if helpful and beneficial etc...

And just curious how do you determine what they need?

experience, ask, guess...sometimes it is obvious, sometimes impossible, mostly same ole same ole needs that all have....it's usually a walk on a slick fence with many falls.

i do not expect much for myself anymore...have discovered that those who have known me

all my life do not know me and haven't the wisdom to lay aside their own ego needs and

just ask what i need.

Skunkbreath, isn't how you expect to be treated and how you would like to be treated two very diferent things?

It sounds like you are saying that what you have learned is the treatment you expect is not how you would like to be treated.

Do you need to be treated differently than you want?

"-isn't how you expect to be treated and how you would like to be treated two very diferent things? "

could be, but i suspect that most people "expect" what they "want" at some level.

"It sounds like you are saying that what you have learned is the treatment you expect is not how you would like to be treated. "

i can't find that in what i said.

Forgive me Skunkbreath.

Upon reviewing your statement again it seems like you are saying that you have little expectations of the treatment from others except that those whom have known you all your life are too ignorant and selfish to learn what you need or want.

Have you expressed this to your family in effort to impart some wisdom and inspire their consideration of you?

The main problem with the G Rule is that in order to treat others as you would be treated sometimes means exposing your weakness' and getting burned. I always treat people as I would like to be treated but I am never a doormat for anyone.

But it will never be a better place to live (earth) if we don't all take the treatment of others as important as we do for ourselves.

I hear that Quantum. I would add to it that I don't want to treat them like a doormat for me either. I don't like the guilt.

shy-, " -ignorant and selfish to -"

yes, ego is a manifestation of ignorance, and is selfish... note that i said,"-haven't the wisdom -", which would indicate a deficiency in intellectual oversight...

to topic: i have found that others do not want to be treated as i care to be treated. If you look at the g-rule's application closely you would see that you can get into all sorts of trouble "treating others as you would be treated". Civility extends beyond that into rules that others apply to themselves...

krupa is somewhat correct from that particular perspective, do before they do..that could be taken in a very positive way...

No body treats me the way I want to be treated and most of the time I fail in treating them the way I want to be treated. I just keep trying, and when I fail I try to take into consideration that others try and fail too.
