| Maybe I am old fashioned but I think that the guy should pay even after the first date, after you know you have a connection then worry about splitting the check or letting her pay.

| I always pay. I suppose if I dated someone who earned more than I do, it would be nice if she paid once in a while. And, I will not stop a woman from paying if she really wants to (and always appreciate the offer).
I dunno. I guess I an old-fashioned that way.

| Depends on the situation. For example when I have met a couple of guys from a site I always pay my way cause I don't know if we're going to like each other. If however it was someone you met and really liked and you had asked her out specially then yes probably the right thing is to pay. Then once the relationship develops I believe you should take turns paying...........

| I think the present day etiquette is for the man to pay but for the woman to make the offer to pay her share. If he pays for the meal, she pays for coffee or movie tickets (or something else) later.
Of course it probably comes back to who can afford it more easily and who initiated the date. I think most men probably feel better about paying initially....it's the old courting ritual thing and kinda romantic.

| I'm a big fan of a very simple, inexpensive first date like meeting for coffee or at most lunch. If the man invited me, my expectation is he would pay and it's only a few dollars. If we both are enjoying ourselves we could linger. If not, we can politely excuse ourselves in less than an hour and nobody feels they invested too much time or money. If I know there is not a connection on my part to politely thank them for taking the time to meet me but I don't see the potential for a connection. I wish men would do the same. This is the courteous thing to do and so often doesn't happen because people are too chicken.
If you continue to date, paying for a date should reflect each person's ability to pay. I've known friends who were going through a tough time financially and could not afford to go out to dinner and pay. However, they did reciprocate by inviting their date to their house for a home cooked meal.
