| We hear a lot of news reports. Some of them are scurrilous rumors, some are urban legends, and some are honest reports of things we need to know as citizens. But a lot of news is slanted -- either because rumors are reported as news, or because key facts are omitted, or because the sources are unreliable. How can we identify reliable news reports? How can we make sure we have heard the whole story?

| I am skeptical as hell with all of it. I grew up with Walter Cronkite and to listen to some of the crap coming out of his mouth now makes me wonder how biased it was back when he was it every night. Today at least we have all kinds of information to view from all over the world and I can choose the believability of it for myself. The 10 second sound bites that they call news is crap and I refuse to listen to it. I tend to listen to peoples opinions and information from people with some accountability and no agendas which is getting difficult to find these days.

| Good question, my friend!
There are so many sources of news today. This "overload" of information challenges all of us to ask critical questions about what we hear and see - and what we sometimes think we hear and see....and what we think we "know." Our perceptions often cloud or color what is actually true. Some folks like to hold on to their pre-conceived notions and will not allow additional information to dissuade them from their 1st opinions.
Its like they are saying: "Don't confuse me with the facts. I know what I know and I like what I know. There is nothing more to know about that. I know all I need to know about that!"
I read at least one newspaper a day. I watch and listen to multiple radio and TV news sources: network and cable. I pay attention and try to see if stories intersect, overlap or cancel out the other(s).
I do not take what I read or hear on tv or radio as the final word, the ultimate truth, the "gospel." I am teaching my daughter to question and to not always believe what she hears on tv or the radio, or wherever she gathers information. I also encourage her to question her teachers (respectfuly of course!) when they offer opinions that she agrees or disagrees with. I want her to become a discriminating (in the best meaning of that word) citizen.
The times require all of us to be able to think critically. An educated and informed population is our strength. Ignorance is never our friend. And what we don't know CAN hurt us!
Good thread!
Peace, Pam

| The mainstream news sources include ALL tv, newspapers, magazines and radio outlets and are ALL illuminati owned and controlled pablem spoon feeding information delivery systems for the sheeple. They cannot tell them the truth, they can ONLY report the news.
The sheeple do not know what to believe, because they cannot make up their own minds about anything because that function is all done for them by big daddy and company. All their thinking has been handed down to them and everything they know is borrowed so that they do not have to think on their own, because their rulers do not want them to think on their own. Because if they could think on their own, they would be dangerous to them.
The rulers, the keepers of their destiny, have the money, the means and the motives to make sure that the sheeple are given everything they need in order to come to the right conclusions they want them to have so they don't need to think on their own.
The sheeples information is conveniently delivered to them in 15 minute sound bytes so that they NEVER get the whole story. The sheeple are entirely way too busy in their lives to be able to assemble enough pieces to any puzzle that nothing will EVER make any sense. That is why big daddy supplies them with the right dosage of information to keep them coming back for more in order to hear the rest of the story.
Brainwashing is a beautiful thing, the washee (you) doesn't know it happened. The fact that it did happen, is only apparent to others.
During times of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act - George Orwell
The sheeple operate on the slave-think level and do their master's bidding unawares. They have grown accustomed to their prison and their servitude to death and lies. The biggest threat in their world is truth.
As long as they have a few cushions for their cell, some salt in their gruel, and as long as they are permitted an opinion or two within the political den created by their masters, they are okay with a mediocre lifestyle and the regimented predictability of their conformist and artificial existence.
They have convinced their screaming soul that it is safer and better to just conform and be a repressed, toxic, thoughtless, frustrated, and programmed clones marching to the drum beat of their imperious marshals.
What a great advantage for leaders that the people do not think - Adolf Hitler
The most powerful tool in the hand of the oppressor is the mind of the oppressed - Stephen Biko (murdered South African activist)
The elementary principle of all deception is to attract the enemy’s attention to what you wish him to see & to distract his attention from what you so not wish him to see - General Sir Archibald Wavel

| barbaque I have to agree here. Fox has their opinion makers but much of the news is just information usually bland. I find myself jumping to different news sources just see if they are telling the same story. I find some putting a spin on it or involving "experts" that are certainly biased.

Seen this, why do they not take on CNN? Owned by a notorious liberal, Ted Turner!!! All news outlets have opinion commentators. Fox...Hannity "AND" Colmes...liberal and conservative views, O'rielly...conservative...sort of, Geraldo Rivera...liberal. CNN, Lou Dobbs...liberal, Larry King...liberal (and senile), Copper Anderson...liberal. MSNBC/NBC, Tim Russert...liberal, Kieth Olbermann...ultra liberal, Chris Matthews...liberal, Katy Couric...liberal. Do you see a trend here? At least FoxNews has people from both sides, and puts them into prominent time slots. I think the point that was being made was that the regular news reporting is given with no agenda. Pretty much, on Fox you just the facts without spin. The fact that a liberal doesn't like FoxNews speaks volumes. The fact that you don't like just hearing what's going on with no liberal spin , that it's because of Booosh, to make your life more cozy, says a hell of a lot. By the way, Rupert Murdoch is a liberal, supports and funds liberal causes, but is a hell of a business man. He realized that there was a bias in news media and countered it. Now, the rest of the MAJOR news outlets are playing catch up.

The fact that you are referencing the Huffington Post shows your liberal bias...thanks for playing though!!!

I have only seen YOU post from the likes of "Prison Planet", Jones' website, and several other conspiracy theory sites. I also read those sites, only before I have eaten mind you. Why??? Because you have to know all sides and make your desicions based on all info. If anyone here is a SHEEPLE it would appear to be YOU!!!

| Dear Mr. Operator1:
Thank you for welcoming me into the forums.
I think it wonderful you have had an opportunity to watch this Rupert Murdoch /Fox documentary. In doing so you have been able to form an opinion. I presented it so people could have the opportunity see something behind the scenes (a different perspective) so to speak so as to also be able to form their own opinions with a critical view on what they actually see in the media.
Isn’t it wonderful that people have the opportunity and resources available to them so as to be able to base opinions in a more informed manner on all subject matter presented to them other than just what main stream media projects? Let’s face it. More and more people it seems are becoming disillusioned with what main stream media presents. I’m sure you agree.
To disagree one would have to be of a fascist state way of thinking and mind set.
Though you may have watched this video perhaps you didn't look at it in its entirety? Maybe you didn't look at it with an open mind or perhaps you just didn't absorb it. Sometimes I need look at things more than once to fully appreciate its value.
I was not referencing the Huffington post (per se.) This just happens to be where the bio is of the journalist who reported on the past Governor Seigelman story. I was impressed with how thorough the journalist seems to have researched it and how it appears things are not always as they seem as seen on main stream media. Case in point is the 60 minutes expose of the former Governor that mysteriously blacked out when presented on main stream media? Thankfully it is presented on her site for all to see. I think on the 60 minutes site too. I found it quite interesting that republicans and democrats alike think there is a conspiracy against this man with an extreme prejudicial republican agenda and that we can overcome party lines when blatant injustice and extremist agendas rears its ugly head..As appears is the case here.
A nasty can of worms. Well worth watching. (In my ever so humble opinion.)
You also mention my reference to the Huffington post shows my liberal bias?
Now are you calling me a democrat or a republican Let’s explore your remark for a moment. If your perception of a democrat/republican is someone who has an open mind, a sense of fair play, values honesty, integrity and the right to free speech as well as the ability to think and look outside the box (idiot box) that is.....................then okay....................I’m a liberal/republican I guess?
In regards to your last remark. to me................
You’re welcome?

| I try to gather information from as many sources as I can on any given subject matter. (not so much from the average people in chat rooms....but, I still will listen)
When I gather as much information as I can, I try to recognize the gaps and discrepancies...from there I form my own opinions. I realize that no one source even has all the information to give or may with hold some. Pretty much the same as everyone here. Myself included.
