| Here is my question.Would any women or men get into a relationship with someone on S.S.I.? The reason I have ask this question because I am on S.S.I. and when women ask me where do you work I tell them I'm on S.S.I..
Does anybody have any suggestings on how to get past this road block?
I always feel when a woman ask question(s) you should answer them honestly.
Do women want a guy that is honest or a liar?

| If a woman doesn't date you because you are on SSI, the she's doing you a favor...that's pretty shallow. It's not like you said that you are on welfare!
No, don't start lying just to get someone. The right one will come along who'll accept you for you.

| Maybe you can explain why you get SSI. I run into this all the time.
Funny some thing right off the bat no job you must be looking for someone to pay your bills.
SSI is a income and once I get to explain the why's it is understood.

| I guess it would depend on the reasons behind it and how well the person is dealing with it.
BTW - this really is not an "honesty" issue. You can't ask if women want a liar or an honest man, as a way to judge whether they're willing to date someone in special circumstances. The two things are apple/orange. Of course I want my man to be honest with me, but I also can't say for certain that someone on SSI would work for me. I don't have to pick one or the other.

| I don't want to sound like a b*tch, but I can be one, but then again i am a very nice girl, and you would not even know it when i am OFF this system. I did have a thread going just like this some time ago, and people were saying about how other people do milk the system, and this was and SSDI issue. I have seen people with SSDI who have faked their mental illness to get it and have nothing wrong with them or they may have arthritis in their knee and have a cane, and one time they didnt and were told on and got that SSDI taken away right from them. They were caught in a bar DANCING for christs sake!! Look, i work a great state job making great money. All my taxes are taken away from that job to pay people on SSI and SSD. Not just me, but everyones paycheck who works. We want to make sure we are not getting screwed. We work hard also. I have severe asthma. I cant get SSD or apply for it because i know i will get denied, because i listened one time as i worked for SSD and they say you have to be hospitalized. Well i only went to the hospital to get several breathing treatments over the years. Thats bullshit. You shouldnt have to be hospitalized. Asthma is a life threatening illness. You can die from it i hope you know? That is my main health problem. I work with people with disabilities and we help them find jobs. I am a medical transcriptionist for the state of new york. I see people who deserve it and real people with mental illnesses. Trust me, there are people who do screw the system and go get beer every second of the month and cigarettes and their steak and shrimp, and here i am working my fking ass off when i cant breath when i walk, using a nebulizer when i get home on a fking hot day in 90 degree whether when i want to grab their check out of their hand and say heyyyyyyy you dirty son of a b*tch, thats my money too your spending. but i dont. i live with my asthma and ask god for strength and hope that there is some justice for all of us who are suffering with illnesses that we cant get SSI or SSD for. I dont know what its like to breathe normal air. I have my good days and bad days.
I hate missing work because i cant breathe or my work calls 911 and they rush me to the hospital and i have to use my time and my work gets piled up. Its disgusting, but its the name of the game. My father is on SSD but he deserves it. He broke his back by falling off a latter and had discs in his back and cant stand or sit for long periods of a time. It took him ten years to get SSD because of that god damn Reagan era when he was president when he cut everyone from social security. I have bad osteoarthrits where its hurtful to walk at times. i dont drink milk because i hate it. My joints hurt, but doctors refuse to give me a bone scan because they think im too young, but i know i have it. I used to take an inflammation pill, but i hate pills. I take four inhalers for asthma. Isnt that cute? If i am going to find someone, i want two incomes coming in as in someone working unless they have a good excuse as to why they are receiving SSI? or SSD? A young person receiving SSI and SSD should have a good damn excuse because that is very young to be on it. That is all i have to say on this post about that because that really does piss me off.

| ouch belle you sure sound pissed.. you seem very angry over ppl that do recieve it...maybe you should reapply
plz put your bitterness aside for those that do have SSI/SSD because it sounds like youre just pissed because you were not approved.
I would reapply and or get a SSI/SSD lawyer.
Trust me though its not much of a income so if you can work I suggest you do.
If I was you I would take the time and check out what all warrents SSD/SSI.
btw it IS faster to get approved living back east.

| I don't consider a person's income, although I can't deny I would prefer to fall in love with someone with better means.
I have my own income, and as long as they are self sustaining, and don't need my money, it is the person that matters. I guess it may matter somewhat in a long distance relationship because then nobody has the money to travel to meet.
Instead of people being angry with people who receive disability incomes, be angry with the system if you feel it is not being accountably operated. Unless you are a doctor, who are you to decide who is ill enough to not work, or not ill enough to work. Even within illnesses such as lupus or fibromyaligia or cancer or back pain, there is a gamut of symptoms and pain levels. One person can keep working, one will have to work part time, and one will be unable to work at all.
I believe most people on SSI would be there because they need to be. There are always dishonest people. As for your income going to them, I venture to guess much more of people's taxes go to the government, and indeed to government misuse and squander.
I have a chronic illness, and received early pension, and still work what hours I can.
My income went from $5000 per month from a job I loved, to $900 on pension. I can't imagine anyone thinking I purposely desired to go onto my pension instead of continuing to work!

You're assuming that she didn't. It certainly sounds to me like she did. I have too, and it pisses me off.
About 3/4 of the "conditions" that qualify for disability income are ridiculous. I understand that this won't make me very popular with the bleeding heart committee (and certainly not with those who are actually taking advantage of the programs) but I guess I'll just have to live with that.
I've known SO many people - including myself - who suffer from conditions that would *qualify* for disability income. We choose to suck it up and work anyway, because we're not willing to live off of the government, or live a substandard existence.
I have two herniated disks in my lower back. They're insanely painful and being a paralegal - which requires long hours both sitting and standing, hauling monster files around, etc - only aggravates the condition. I keep working because I was raised to work, not whine, and I have a responsibility to work to support the children I brought into the world.
I used to work with a 58 year old legal assistant who had fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis, and Lupus. She came to work every day just as cheerful as could be. She always said that the day she let her medical problems shut her up in her house, would be the day she died.

| Foxy for your information, I do work. I dont live off the government. I work full-time for the goverment as a medical transcriptionist which requires sitting standing, filing, doing the mail, etc. I go in to work every single day with my sickness, and not once do i complain. I am sick of taking my inhalers because i am unable to breathe. I have osteoarthritis in both of my knees and it hurts me to walk but like katiekins says i go into work all cheery, but im dying inside because the pain hurts. I hate people who milk the system. I work my ass off to earn that money. I deserve that money. I am raising a 14 year old son by myself although i get child support and it is well deserved. I pay for my own actions and i have my own responsibilities. Where the hell did you get i got denied SSI/SSD? In fact, i would because asthma you would have to be hospitalized although i was in the hospital several times for breathing treatments but they dont care. Only the mentally ill get approved, maybe i should start faking that illness. cookoo cookoo cokooo.
