Where are all of the single daddy’s at?
Tell us your story

After reading a post about single mothers I had to speak up, you see so much about single mothers on TV and in the press. I am not making lite of single mothers at all. I am a single father and proud of what I have done to raise my daughters. Single fathers face the same obstacles as single mothers but we also face some unique obstacles as well. As a man we are expected to provide for our children, many of us are denied state aid and other types of help.

I married a woman that had a daughter from a previous relationship, after the legal amount of time I adopted her, she was four. Together we had another daughter, and then things between us started to get bad. There was a lot of physiological abuse from her to me, threats of not being able to see my girls and things of that nature getting worse over time. When it got to the point that I could no longer stand it, I found out that she was abusing my girls. That was the exit that I needed to get custody of my girls and it worked. While going thru my divorce I took in another girl. She was my oldest daughters best friend, her mother and father were both gone, and the grandmother had custody. The grandmother hated her and kicked her out at the age of eight. I took her in to my home and raised her as one of mine. I never got any type of support from her family or the state, as well as any child from my now ex-wife even though it had been ordered during the divorce. So I had three daughters to raise 5, 9 and 11, no support and to top it off I had been a long haul truck driver. I quit my job went back to school and worked a crapy full time job as a train loader. I had help from my parents when they could but for the most part I was own my own. Dating was a thing of the past, no woman that I met wanted a man with three girls. Now 14 years later I have 3 wonderful daughters and one super son-in-law along with 3 fantastic grandchildren (all from my oldest daughter and her husband so far). It has been a long road but well worth the effort!
I raise my glass to all single parents!
