I am an adventurous person by nature...however I never imagined in my wildest dreams that I would jump out of a properly operating airplane, while in flight at 10,000 feet! I don't really even like roller coasters, and have only been on a few that were very and I mean VERY small! Yet, I jumped out of a Frickin' airplane!! Go figure. You probably won't believe this, but I was fearless! I don't know if it was mind over matter or what, but prior to the jump I refused to "see" myself at the edge of the plane. I knew that if I played that vision over and over in my head, I would freak myself out. So, I just didn't think about it, and it worked!

After getting in the plane, we spent 25 minutes flying to the desired altitude...TEN THOUSAND FEET!! The view from the plane was amazing. There were 5 jumpers crammed in the little Cessna, along with the pilot who looked like he was 16 yrs old...but really 21 (like that's any more reassuring!). With "me", was my "instructor", who I would be jumping in tandem with, along with my own personal skydiving videographer, who took 62 still shots and the best damned 7 minute movie of me, beginning at my launch from the plane and ending at my landing. After the first two "solo" jumpers took flight, my camera man positioned himself outside the plane so he could film my free fall.

Getting to the edge of the plane wasn’t scary, but thrilling and as we launched into a 40 sec free fall, I was rushed with adrenaline and screamed with pure excitement. The warm wind blasted my face and it felt funny to breathe for a moment, but then that feeling passed. The wind was also very loud….it was the sensation I’ve experienced riding on the back of a motorcycle at high speeds with glasses, but no helmet. During the free fall, we fell through the clouds and the camera man caught up with us, grasped my hands, spun me around in a circle and then let go….sending me (with instructor), in to a spin through the air! After “hamming it up” with the camera guy a little bit longer…..blowing kisses, giving peace signs…etc…. I pulled the “rip cord” at 5,000 feet….and was ripped back up through the air another several feet. Then every thing slowed down….the wind no longer rushed, and it became very quiet and peaceful. I was really able to really enjoy the scenery, the view of the ocean, the mountains, and the skyline. My instructor allowed me to grasp the handles of the parachute and showed my how to maneuver around in circles….to the left and then the right….in essence teaching me how to “steer”. After a 7 minute descent, we made a perfect landing on all “four” feet!

Skydiving was the most exhilarating, liberating and most X-treme adventure I’ve ever had. I am so proud of myself for having the “guts” to do it and not allowing fear to conquer me. It cost my friend a small fortune for both of us to jump and get pictures and videos, but she agrees when I say, “IT WAS WORTH EVERY PENNY!!” And….I’d do it again in a heartbeat. (Pictures on my profile to prove it!!)

Now…if I could only get over my fear of roller coasters…..

Hey Missyroo! You've got to do it!! What a great way to "treat" yourself on your birthday! It's something you'll never forget....and if you can get a video, it's WORTH the money! I have watched mine about 10 times since I've been back and have relived the jump over and over again, feeling the adrenaline rush every time! Not to mention, it's a great way to quiet the "doubters" or the "haters"!

I spent 24 total years in the Army and part of that time was with the Special Forces and jumping out of perfectly good airplanes. I have a Masters Jumper Certificate and over 30 jumps to my credit. You haven't made a parachute drop until you do a night jump! AI did this all in the Army and many of those drops were in Vietnam. Again...those were with the Army. If you think I'm going to strap on a parachute and jump out of a perfectly good airplane as a civilian...you are out of your mind! NO WAY JOSE!

The ciy I live in used to sponsor the World Freefall Convention where thousands of jumpers came for a giant party with constant jumping throughout the week. So, I actually conquered my fear of heights and jumped 8 years ago. It is phenomenal and I will definitely do it again some day!
