| Nonetheless, I'm still not seeing a way to "sin" under this idea under biblical references. Any ideas of a sin that can be commited under these circumstances, or laws that may be needed for one's self?

| Sin is committed against God only. Our actions of lack of actions is what causes sin.
Unless you know and seek God, then sin is only a word.

| I will grant you that the meaning of sin is different for different people, but I won't give you the idea that it can't mean the same thing to other people who don't share this exact viewpoint. There are those whom believe that you are born with sin, and others who believe sin is an action. And that is just within the same faith, not to mention other belief systems. Now the mode in which you mentioned sin is understood even by me, however the sin against this god is in direct correlation to how one treats others. In other words, you do wrong against this god by doing wrong against your fellow man. So if your fellow man is removed from the factor, how does one do wrong by this god? I will give you this since I've had time to comptemplate it... There is the mention of cursing god itself. This is considered a sin, so I will alot for it. Nonetheless, I find the majority of slights against this creator still involve other people being present. Thoughts?

| What few of you know of me is that I am running for Mayor of my city here in Fayetteville. City government has many similarities to larger government, including all the cliches that go with it. I was at a stump speach(they actually cut up a stump and had us stand on it while we were speaking to the crowd)when I noticed a trend in their statements. They used generalized statements that showed no relevence to anything whatsoever. This is an example of what I'm talking about...
One of the Candadates said,"I love trees!" Then there was applause from the crowd as if it was in any way, shape, or form relevant to the ongoing issues. One issue being that Fayetteville is $201,760,000.00 in debt right now and cannot borrow any more than $22,000,000.00 more on loans. Our debt is much greater than our annual budget, and in the event of a natural disaster, we'd be crippled. Then there's the fact that the present mayor cut the police education budget this year. Instead of a fire truck that we desperately needed, they bought a bike trail. I can go on, but such conjecture is futile. Offering people practicality doesn't excite them. So others offer... hope. Because hope sales. Hope is sexy. Hope is a beautiful woman in a nice dress who offers the world, although often she doesn't deliver. Practicality... not so sexy or beautiful. Leaders don't get elected for being practical. They have to sale that shit like a pimp.
So this is where I find myself. How do I try to maintain cohabitation for my own city when the people themselves don't want to hear that we can't afford to buy parks or trails anymore? When they don't care about the numbers so long as they're happy today? I find myself refusing to pretty it up, this bleak future. But that is the price for involving myself in politics I suppose... I might accidently have cared.

One of the wonderful things about democracy is that the candidates who get elected are often the ones who tell the electorate what they want to hear, not what they need to hear.
Although this probably belongs more in the current events & politics section - however, over there they'd call all the people who are frustrating you lefty liberal democrats.
To go back to one of my recurring themes, I would argue that it has a lot to do a lack of critical thought he general public.

Second Candidate Files For Mayoral Race
Northwest Arkansas Times
Posted on Tuesday, August 12, 2008
Adam Fire Cat officially entered the Fayetteville mayoral race Monday, filing his nominating petition with the county clerk's office. The filing period for municipal offices in nonpartisan elections opened Wednesday and will remain open until noon Aug. 26. According to the county clerk's office, a candidate for a city of the first class is required to obtain 30 signatures of qualified registered voters on a nominating petition. A candidate filing for a race in a second-class city needs at least 10 signatures on a nominating petition. Petitions are filed with the city clerk, who will make sure all the signatures are valid before filing the petition with the county clerk. Petitions must be filed in the county clerk's office by noon Aug. 26. Candidates are also required to fill out a political practice pledge. Non-incumbent candidates must file a statement of financial interest with the city by Sept. 1. A campaign contribution and expenditure report must be filed with the county either seven days before the election or 30 days after the election, depending on the amount of contributions and expenditures. In Fayetteville, a first-class city, the mayor and city clerk positions are up for election as well as the Position 2 seat in all four wards. Five candidates have made known their intentions to run for mayor, including Mayor Dan Coody, Alderman Lioneld Jordan, Walt Eilers, Steve Clark and Cat. Eilers filed on Thursday. City Clerk Sondra Smith has announced she will run for re-election. The aldermen seats up for election are currently held by Ward 1 Alderman Brenda Thiel, Ward 2 Alderman Nancy Allen, Ward 3 Alderman Bobby Ferrell and Ward 4 Alderman Jordan. Fayetteville residents Matthew Petty and Bernard Sulliban have announced their intentions to run for the Ward 2 seat held by Allen, who has said she will not seek re-election in November. Sarah Lewis, environmental consultant and chairman of the Fayetteville Council of Neighborhoods, hopes to fill Jordan's Ward 4 seat. In the second-class cities of Elkins, Elm Springs, Greenland, Goshen, Johnson and Tontitown, all six council seats are up for election as well as the city recorder-treasurer position.

Best of luck indeed. I think one of the most difficult thing about any form of politics must be to avoid taking the attacks personally. For that you must have the hide of a rhinoceroses.

| Governments seem to rely on self promotion. This means they have to show what they are doing to make your world better. I like the word progress... it can mean anything you want it to mean. Then there is the bogus claims about the dangers lurking about that are somewhat stretching it at best. Marijuana funds terrorism and other such shit. Anything can be a danger when put in the right context.

| Well guys and gals, this thread has reached a hundred and one... like the dalmations... and I am calling it quits. I think the subject has been fun, and I really enjoyed the question. I was made aware that some people were blocked from this particular thread, and that's regretful. Asking a question and not wanting to hear the answers and perspectives of others shows no critical thinking, or critical listening. Either way, I conclude that YES, it is ALL just a system of cohabitation!!!!! That's all we've got. The best we can hope for is to coexist with our fellow man and woman. To appreciate art when we see it. To hold the hand of the person we love and enjoy the moments we have here.
“Strange is our situation here upon earth. Each of us comes for a short visit, not knowing why, yet sometimes seeming to a divine purpose. From the standpoint of daily life, however, there is one thing we do know: That we are here for the sake of others...for the countless unknown souls with whose fate we are connected by a bond of sympathy. Many times a day, I realize how much my outer and inner life is built upon the labors of people, both living and dead, and how earnestly I must exert myself in order to give in return as much as I have received.” - Albert Einstein
