| What the hell is wrong with this country?Has it always been like this?I never heard of people hurting thier children like this 10 years ago.Is it more news worthy now?People who do these things deserve to be thrown out of a plane.It seems that people want to blame it on the meds that people are taking or not taking.Is that right?What do you think?

| Hi there,
I think there is a lot of loneliness, sadness, desperation in the world today. Really, this has always happened. We have the presents of the news media to bring us every tragedy that happenes. Mental illness is awful, especially when untreated. In my heart, no mother would puposely do this to her children. Imagine how low you have to be to think that it would be better for your children to be dead! Very sad situation!

| I saw that news when the woman tossed her children over the overpass. She follows. Not a month ago, south of Houston in Galveston, TX, a man tosses his child from a moving car after beating the child to death. A man in on trial right now in Houstn for sticking his two month old child in a microwave. He claims 'the voices' made him do it. the grandfather who sets his daughter's apartment with her children inside on fire.....
the liberal special interest groups have chiseled away at our morals, God being recognized in our schools, courts, in all areas of our lives. Think about it....

| People have always done horrific things to children throughout history, just as men were allowed to do horrific things to women throughout history. Women and children were considered "chattel" or property. In many places in the world, they still are. In many places in this country, men still act as if they are.
The laws have evolved to address what we now call child abuse and domestic violence. And there are laws in every state that define and prohibit child abuse and domestic violence. There are also agencies - law enforcement and child protective services - whose responsibility it is to enforce those laws and seek/assure protection for the victims.
There isn't more of this stuff happening - which sickens us all every time we hear it. Some could argue there is actually less happening as a result of society's attention and the legal prohibition against it.
We are all seeing and hearing news coverage 24/7 about news events, crimes and "human interest stories" that occur across the country and around the world. So whereas a child could be abused, maimed or murdered in Dallas and no one in Maryland would ever know about it. Not anymore. The story is picked up by various news outlets and its in everyone's living room within 24 hours.
Because of the electronic connectedness of everyone, we are a smaller world, and we know what is happening in each other's back yard almost all of the time.

I do feel sorry for the children and the family though.
We may never know what "demons" this woman had, maybe voices in her head told her to do it but some people will assume that it's "Society's fault". Not everyone who has mental problems has obvious outward signs and the nature of the illness is often accompanied by fear of the people who could help them. Look up Paranoid....
Yes, I'm assuming she was insane, I don't think a sane woman would kill her own children.
Things like this have been going on throughout history, just that with the population going up there's "more" of it happening even if there isn't on a per capita basis. That and things like this were pretty much "covered up", suicides were called "accidents" or "natural causes" to save the family embarrassment.
There's always been a fraction of the population that's "sick" and most likely there always will be and we're not going to be able to identify and treat everyone who needs it.

| i say it again; its the meds. they have a side effect of depression, suicide and homicidal thoughts.
and guess what is the latest; they are trying to get a bill passed; and both hillary and obama signed on to it (don't know about mccain) where the hospitals will "test" mothers to see if they are depressed, starting from pregnancy; and if they fit any markers of being depressed what do u think they will do? yes, force them to take those meds.
my dad is a doctor, and he said that almost all women at some time during pregnancy will have times of depression or being anxious; mainly because the hormones fluctuate. giving these meds to a pregnant woman will very possibly harm the baby; but theres also a big chance it will trigger violent episodes. and what happens if she breast feeds?
is there anyone who will stand up to the pharmaceutical companies??

| That is just SO scary china! I don't know the answer with regard to the pharmaceutical companies. I wish I did. I do know that we as individuals can become more educated and take responsibility for our own choices with regard to these meds. Research before popping a pill, look for alternative treatments, make sure they are the proper meds before putting them in our mouths.
It's beyond sad when a parent harms their child(ren). In most cases I have heard about, it has been a mental illness that started these people down the road to this. I know here in Canada, they have been shutting down mental health facilities for years and it is near impossible to get proper treatment, so the answer is give them all pills. It's not working!!

| I agree with Jeannie.
On top of that, people feel the squeezing of government in overprice housing, cars, gas, jobs that are going overseas, men/women who don't commit to relationships for the long term or the preparation to be good men/women and parents, deadbeat dads, cheating men and women, the lack of good quality education and this mindset that the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer and are slowly being oust from their homes while cities are becoming more and more expensive to live in. Anyone would lose hope, in the case of children being killed by their parents, that's a hope lost in not just heart and mind, but in soul as well. Our government and our society will have alot to answer for eventually.
Can you imagine what depth of despair has taken over those people to commit such travesty aganist God, man and their beautiful children. All you have to do is look at their beautiful, trusting, loving faces and see the ultimate goodness that man can be.
What is that saying from the Bible about the end of times, "during the last days, men's hearts will fail them". Alas...we ARE living during the last days. I would wager, that for most of us, we've not seen nothing yet.
