I have found myself chasing after someone who wasn't available before and for some reason he was my only interest even though I had real single, interested men trying to talk to me. Why do we do this to ourselves?

I dunno. Could be because you knew you couldn't have him, so you could romantisze the idea, and because you couldn't have him, nothing could go wrong like it could with the guys who were available??? Nothing ventured, nothing gained (or lost).

I have this theory that it's our own way of making certain we don't get something we fear not being able to keep...possibly.

Like happiness...why try to attain it, because you cannot sustain it 24/7 so why bother trying - you'll just lose the buzz....

Like love?

Why risk it all when you might lose...

Isn't there a song about the Joker being beaten by the Queen of Hearts everytime, he's a loser but he still keeps on trying....?

Something like that.

JMO - but it does make you stop and consider before handing out your heart.

Why do we want what we can't have?

Wasn't yours to begin with. Some things we wish we could have. Some things we wish that we should have. Some things we would have but never tried. Trying to have our wish is better than never trying at all.

I believe we as all humans just do it who really knows why.... We all want love, a job that will last tell we retire, a relationship .

I fought for so many yrs to have a perfect everything, this about broke me inside and out, until, one day last yr I woke up and said NO more will I do this, it was and had change me, who I was, and where I wanted to be , and go with my life, I waisted so many yrs, doing this...

We don't know, if we did, and had a book that told our life's story before we lived it , would we have even read the first chapter, I can be honest and say NO, I wouldn't have....

We can't know where our lives will lead, theres no way to know, so we must go on, and try the best we can to make as many mistakes as possible , and hope there the right ones.

That will lead to happiness, and love, and most of all trust..... JMO..... Beach

I think that everyone practices this behavior at some point but there are those who live by it. I think those of us who are more attracted to drama tend to be the ones that are more likely to pursue an unattainable goal. Many people who are extremely competitive will also find themselves acting this way, as well as the obvious low self esteem crowd.

Of course this is just my opinion and it is hampered by a small field of test subjects, namely myself and all the many whack jobs I have met in my 47 years.

Thank u all so much for your replies. Actually it was a long story; I met this guy online who was suppose to be single.. talked and went out for about a month and then he told me that he had a g/f which was heartbreaking and painful for me b/c I had already started to develope some feelings for him. So anyway.. after he told me that I kept trying to convince him to be with me and although he wanted to.. he told me that he just couldn't break his g/f's heart so I did decide to move on and I'm happy that I did b/c now I'm happy!!
