| For those of us who are here truly looking for "the one"... how does one weed through it all...
Met a man, long distance, went to see him on my way cross country on business, had a fabulous time... both of us... now nothing...
Met a man, fairly local... couple long, as in hours, IM's and phone conversations... fabulous first date... for both of us... unless he is going to be winning an academy award for his performance... now nothing..
Contacted by a man, long distance... many emails and IM's... first phone conversation went well... talk of coming to CA to visit... now his profile is gone????
Ladies... sound familiar??? Men... any insight???

The second a short time... but there was a mutual... connection... or so I thought.
The third... have emailed for about 5 weeks and just spoke on the phone...

| I have had similar experiences as you....I think that some men and women on here aren't really looking for a relationship or commitment and maybe not realize it until they find themselves getting alittle too close to someone then they back off from it totally

| you guys?? read my past post's. LDR sucks! to me it does cause it always dissolves into nothing.
How many times have you heard this from others? email, phone and when you meet sparks fly and then disappear and you never hear from the other person.

| I think it is a cross-gender issue. I know that some have a different philosophy about dating. When you get to know someone, it should be a priority to determine where they stand as far as intention. A date is a date, nothing more or less, until a mutual commitment is made.
Men: Don't tell a woman she is the only one, she is special and you have no intention on seeing other women ... unless you mean it. (But, ladies, this does not mean that feelings can and do change 'you know this, you are guilty too!')

| Thanks... to those of you who have posted...
Of course a date is a date... and the above, in the interest of all, is a very brief synopsis... but you get the picture...
There are LDR that work out... we have seen them here...
Just a proponent of "say what you mean and mean what you say..."

| You can tell more about a persons character and personality on one date than you can in six months of emails. I've been on dates (sometimes once & sometimes two or three) and had a great time together, but knew at the end we would never be more than friends. I saw things that showed me that I could never spend the rest of my life with them. BUT, if that was the case, they should have had the common courtesy to tell you... In looking for a lifelong mate you can find a few great friends if you treat them decently and are honest with them....
Please don't misinterpret this as me saying that they were bad people. They weren't. We just were not compatible. I was hit by a car last Tues. morning and spent three days in the Critical Care Unit. One of those women came to the Hospital that afternoon and stayed all night ! But we both know that we'll never be more than friends.

| It works both ways. I met someone for a bite to eat and some drinks and nothing came out of it. It may be that most people have been alone or haven't had closure in past relationships which causes the pause in a budding relationship. I know that one of my New Years' Resolutions is to start dating again in hopes of having a strong relationship. I have been out of the dating pool for 3 yrs. I know what it takes to maintain a happy relationship. That might be a concern for others, hence the silence after the date. Just my opinion.

| I had to think about me, In a mine field...ooooh the tippy tippy toes there huh? I mean any movement, any heat could blow your a** off...
good analogy...
same is true in dating (good God don't I KNOW it!)
the incredible disappearing men thing is a mystery but then I think occasionally I like to fall off the map as well...now you see me. now you don't.
There's a fine line between understanding what exploring dating is and what an exclusive "interest" is...
which is it?
DO you both agree?
Sometimes those words aren't spoken directly.
Sometimes they are and then the space between you becomes filled with...now what the f**k did I say?!?!
uh oh rarely sucks words you shouldn't have said back inside your heart.
Sad but true.
And then....poof.
I can be just as guilty when scared of where I am headed....
I"ll admit it.
I know what I want but the getting there safely scares the hell out of me.
I'd rather be IN a damn mine field.
