Have any of you heard that on or about April the third, truckers throughout the United States are planning to go on strike? I've heard this rumor in several emails from friends and family across the country. There are even several trucking sites reporting this. Does anyone here know anything about it?

I haven't heard anything, but with diesel prices higher than gas (it's over $4/gal. here) can you blame them?

Diesel is over $4.00 a gallon here in SoWeGa. It wasn't all that long ago, a lot of constructin companies used diesel to keep concrete from sticking to wooden forms. I remember dumping five gallon buckets of it on wood forms and moping it across them with push brooms. At 0.75 a gallon, it was about the cheapest stuff in the business.

Now, consider that tractor trailers get about seven miles to the gallon or less, and fuel is now four bucks a gallon... how the hell are they making a living anyway? It seems to me that they wil either have to take control of the fuel prices or just go out of business.

As a trucker I hear talk all the time about striking. There may be a strike but getting all truckers to stop working all at once will not happen. There are too many depending on that paycheck. Also, company drivers do not have to pay for fuel and most companies won't shut down operations. JMO

Jimmy Hoffa has appearently been on a strike of some kind for quite some time now.

If all the truckers didn't strike at once but, only a select few in certain areas, that could still make for one hell of a mess.

Where is Jimmy Buffet when we need him? A cheese burger in paradise sounds real good after I go and fill up my pick-up. I almost feel like punching someone, hell, I just filled up with 89 octane and didn't even get a reach around!?!

Trucking companies do not pay for fuel. You do every time you buy a product that was shipped by a truck. That's why you see a fuel surcharge added to trash collection invoices and other statements.

As a trucker once, for about 4 years, I think it would be the est thing in the world. People don't realize the outcome that would happen. they know truckers are important, but I do't feel they really understand the shut down of the whole country. 3 days is all it would take.

If you got it; a trucker brought it!!!............ Right fellas?

There won't be any truckers strike..unless some of the O/O's are going to try and "rest" on the load... Its against the law. to strike with a loaded trl.. thats in the FED rules.. and no company is going to allow the drivers to strike.. Read> OOIDA.com website and you will understand why there most likely won't be a strike...

As it is, there's not enough truck drivers in America right now.
It wouldn't take long to shut this country down. The problem is trying to co-ordinate all the truckers to shut down operations. Especially the independents!
There is over 1.3 million Teamsters in America. I know, I'm one of em'!
I would fully encourage a shut down! It would only work if everybody were on the same page.
With everything going on with OUR Country right now- enough is enough!!
But, I will stay on topic and not talk about housing, food prices, electricity, water, corporate greed, health care prices, and everything else that our government believes it should control us with.
What I will say is that it shouldn't just be truckers that shut down but everybody!
Make a day that everybody (preferably during the week of normal business) and nobody use their vehicle or go to work in the entire Country!
Not advocating all out anarchy- just a message that enough is enough!!
At least for now!!

Ive been out of Trucking for many years.
I drove for Ryder Truck Lines out of
Charlotte NC. I was also a Teamster Steward.
More than once, we came down with the Blue Flu.
Although it was just 1 company, it didnt
take long for Headquarters in Florida to
contact us. We got what we asked for. No Strike.
Older drivers will remember Ryder, we drove
yellow Trucks. When Butcher Trucks Lines
bought out Ryder, they changed the Truck color
to Blue. They were hotter in the summer, the
Yellow was Jim Ryder's idea to help keep
our trips cooler.
I would like to see the Nations Truckers call
a Blue Flu Epidemic. It is not striking and
you CAN shut down loaded Trailers, or atleast
you used to be able to.
