| My family is very weird...
my brother, the one who complains, has a tattoo
and several of my cousins do as well..
... but to certian people in my family its still a bad thing..
I cannot wait to get more, and I have plans of getting more already...
It's my body .. and it does not make me a "biker chick" or "wh*re" as my family says it does.
As long as they have meaning I see nothing wrong with them..
my cousin who is a little heavy wants to get a titanic on his stomach so it looks like its sinking... oh man..

| I have two tattoos. I am 41 years old. However, I did not get my tats until I was 35. I am thankful that I waited until then because I was mature and knew how this sort of thing was unappreciated in my career choice.
When you are young and decide to get a tattoo, always be mindful that you will not always be the person that you now.
I made the choice to put my tats in places that are non-viewable unless I want them to be viewed (my lower back and foot). I work in the education industry and wear a business suit everyday.
I also have my belly button pierced. No one who knows me would ever think in a million years (at work or through work) that I would have tats or piercings.
Would I get more, hell yeah, I do not regret them. I am proud of them and I enjoy showing them outside of the office.
Point is, you can't possibly know who you will be, or how you will feel, when you are older. Your hopes and aspirations can change. Don't limit your future by setting limitations for yourself when you are young.
Whether or not you think it is right for people to judge you based on your appearance...it happens, and always will. Have you ever seen a CEO of a huge Corporation with his eyebrow and lip pierced and tats running up his neck and face? You gotta admit, it would catch you off guard. Or, walk in to any bank in the USA, they have requirements. There is a movie rental place where I live, Hastings, and employees are not permitted to have visible tats or piercings. It's a movie rental place for christ's sake, but that's just the way it is.
Oh, and my family thinks it is absolutely absurd that I have my tattoos. But because I do not act or look like a biker chick--they just assume it was a mid-life crisis.
Well, if your family---the people who love and know that you are not a "biker chick" says things like that to you---you know society will be far more harsh.
Just be smart about how and why you get your tats. Don't do it to get back at them, do it because they have great meaning, or you appreciate the art.

| I definately do not get tattoos in spite or when I have a boyfriend or girlfriend.. my ex who I had all intentions on marrying wanted to get my name tattooed on him and I told him and idiot... obviously he is my ex.. but yeah.
My tattoos are easily coverable, the one in on my neck, but as long as my shirt isn't very low.. you can't see it. and I have my tounge pierced, its not a visable piercing.
My tattoos are VERY meaningful. My godchild is like my son, and he will always be a part of my life.. and my uncle was one of my biggest heros so those things will never change.

| Ladyinparis well said. I'm also in the education industry and all of my tats are easily covereable when needed. I get nothing but compliments when I choose to show them, because I have a chosen great artists. I think it is important to think about what you want and why you want it. Getting a tattoo because it's the "thing" to do is a horrible idea. All mine have special and significant meaning to me. That's why it doesn't bother me when people are negative. It's not their business anyhoo.

| I only have my lip pierced and people give me the weirdest looks, and glare at me because of it. My dad threatened to rip it out of my lip, because he said it makes women look trashy. Both my parents threatened me until I told them, a piercing does not change who I am. I told them my plans about getting a tattoo for the summer, and they both were okay with it. Weird huh.   Whatever, I'm 18 and it's my body. The tattoo isn't just a tattoo I'm getting something done that means alot to me.

| I have a lot of peircing and do get viewed at I guess a little odd under society standards but the way I feel about it is they can look point say what they want but its not going to phase or change me just because they don't like it. My advice just be who you are and ignore the critisism of others its not worth your time or effort. No sense in beating yourself down to make someone else happy.

| IT SUX! i have two piercings on each ear, and my tongue. i had more but i had to let some of them close for my job. so yeah i have a tattoo wantin to get more but i just havent had the time or money.  my parents hate it too. i hate the fact that i cant get more cause im under their roof and that it makes me look stupid... so ya hope to hear back from you.

| at first, my family was not crazy about my tats. some co-workers expressed their displeasure with them as well. i tell them all, this is my body. this is how i want to express myself. i sat in the chairs to endure getting these things. u did not. u don't like them, don't look. u don't want me around, fine! kiss my ass! now...most of them either have one, r getting one, or like to tell ppl about about my tats. go figure.

| My own family thinks I'm a bum just cuz I have 2 tatoos and gaged ears with 5 normal ear peircings. They are so jugmental of me. Even tho my cousin and her man are white trash and neglect thier kids. It dosn't matter tho. It just gives me more fuel to get more. Its to bad I'm poor. We shall see how they like my lip peircing I'll get in a few weeks. I love body art and I will ALWAYS think its sexy.
