I think verbal. Which most of the time leads into physical.Self esteem gets so low we think we don't deserve better. How do you seperate it they are both bad.

Both. Physical abuse may heal but the emotional scares are still there. Verbal abuse stays in your head and also is always with you, it also demeans you in a way where you start to believe what you are being told. I have to say both- as each causes equal damage.

Verbal abuse. It has more control over the person especially since it's easier to
excuse and hard to prove.

I am sorry but any type of abuse in its own way is the worst. Emotional is just as bad as the others. So I must say.....all 3. I won't put up with any of them.

Yes all are bad and none should be tolerated, however I think verbal abuse is trickier as it has a way of sneaking up on you and isn't always recognized until you feel like you are the lowest piece of shit there is. by that time, the energy to crawl out of that dark hole is a lot more difficult to muster. We can always recognize physical abuse but it amazes me that a verbal abuser can convince you that the verbal/emotional abuse doesn't even exist.

Just my two bits offered.

Sooo true luv....verbal abuse does have a way of sneaking up to you...and don't even realize it's happening cause its a slow process....and an verbal abuser knows how to manipulate it..with a physical abuser most times you are walking on eggshells...wondering when that fist is going to fly or whats going to tick him off this time....( wink ) Sea

hugz...........You said it in a Nut~shell !! Thank you.
When you are called a fat~ass in the grocery store and I
could go on but that's a whole nother ball~game (I weighed 135lbs)
and the verbal abuse just keeps going on and on and on.
One day I just snapped and told the bast##d I would rather him
slap me in the face, kick me, knock me to the ground " JUST ANYTHING"
then Call me names and Degrade me on a daily basis. Needless to say,
I walked out the following day and haven't seen or heard from him since.
It's no different then screaming and yelling at your kids all the time.
Verbal Abuse. Worst thing you could put on someone........It leaves
Emotional Scars.....especially with children......Here in Iowa it is
a Law. You will go to jail. They look at it as the same way, as Physical
Abuse.

Silk......Been in the physical abuse too. I was beaten from my
head to my feet with a walking cane and was brought into the hospital
by my brother...Had to sneak to the phone......and when I was carried
into the hospital they thought that I was in a "Horrible Car Accident"
The police were brought in and I remember my clothes being cut off of me
and the bright lights from the camera's flashing and the blood running from
my eyes kept me from seeing anything......Sorry, but can't continue with the
rest...........That man has since Died from some sort of accident I heard....

ANY abuse is wrong. I think everyone has had some form of it. Unfortunately, I think it stays with us and we get these triggers that remind us of what and where but not necessarily why. I think if we can communicate to each other in a relationship about this maybe-just-maybe there can be stronger relationships. I don't know. However this is what I hope in my relationship.

Sticks and stones may break your bones

STOP ALL ABUSE!!!!!!!!

i feel for you but i have never been in a physical abuse relationship
i am sooo sorry to hear what happened to you
i would end it all with a shot gun if a man put his hands on me and that is well know
but the verbal abuse i went through was horrible
i am unable to make my self comfortable at a house a man owns
so much was beat into my head that if it wasn't for my kids i would be in a nutty farm

but i did find out the healing is long and its been a year for me - things do get better
you pick yourself up and live again

bones can mend, words can never be taken back, but neither is exceptable and those "men" should be hanged and shot, then be mutalated
