What has happened to chivalry guys? Did "Womens Lib" cause chivalry to become almost extinct?

I love equality in a relationship. Chivalry may be a nice idea, but it is a set of rules that seem forced. I would love to open the door for you if I so happened to arrive there first, but why not the other way around? Does chivalry work both ways or just as it applies to the male gender?

Even though the word "chivalry", "chivalrous" predates back to the midevial times, back to the days of knights and horsemen and kings and meant a code of conduct, behaviors to live by, the only behavior that today is associated with the word "Chivalry" is courtesy towards women. We should all practice courtesy, regard "chivalry" towards one another

Agreed, but then it ceases to be chivalry, and becomes courtesy. The devil's in the details I guess.

I always go out of my way to help women (young & old) either with bags, groceries, holding doors

I LOVE it when a woman is standing by the door waiting and holding it open for me. I think for a woman to do that is so curtious and sincere

Are you guys really kidding yourelves... this is the new mill.. there is no such thing as chivalry anymore... I have been out here driving truck fr 22 yrs.. I have not limited my self to truck driviers which most people refer to a scums of the planet.. but I have been around alot of other towns and places and I have rarely sen it any where any more Even with the older generation 50 + in resturants or public places.. It seems it is getting to be a very me me me world and a very disrespectful country... I is very saddening.. I have been driving like I said 22 yrs.. I lost my license .. for life last week due to med reasons... a real blow to me.. I will not even be able to drv my car.. I have many safe award and a very clean record... but with all the disrespct i see out here between everyone on and off the road I am saddened to say I may not miss it.. I will Miss my freedom but I will not miss the public...noone opens doors any more they slaam them in your face.. It's a shame......

I have to agree with Eddy on this one. You get the treatment that you deserve. If you are rude and obnoxious, you will be ignored. If you are polite and gentlemanly or ladylike, you will be treated with respect.

Just because it is a new millenium, doesn't mean that being polite is dead. I often will hold the door for a gentleman if I get there first. And, I expect the same in return. Life is what YOU make it.
