If you love a good road trip anyway, and you're really interested in a DH person, how do you suggest a meeting without sounding crazy or pitiful?

Headstart, i don't think you could sound either, from what i've read around here, people will travel quite some distance if they feel there's a "real" hook up, some have mentioned they'd even travel across country for "just physical" now that seems pretty desperate, lol,,,,,but what the heck? Personally i wouldn't travel more than an hour to meet someone, nor would i want anyone to travel more than that to meet me. I'll stick to locals. But i'm definitly not in the majority on this one.

Speaking from experience again... long distance relationships are hard as hell. It gets harder and harder everytime you have to say goodbye. We weren't planning on being together until next summer but it is so hard that we are doing it this summer.

Before you even begin to think about meeting I would make sure you can handle the distance thing and have a plan as to how you will be together in the long run because ldr's can't work indefinately. JMO.

What's crazy? If you really want to meet just tell him I would like to get together sometime. If your a road warrior like myself ..lol I would just take a ride to see the person. If your talkig on the phone with this person I'm sure the subject would just come up. Good luck. Mikey

headstart, it's not crazy...you will never know if you don't take that chance..
Think of it as an adventure, and meeting a good friend. Sometimes that friend ends up meaning a lot more !

Mikey...where you been ?? Haven't seen you on here in a long time!!!

Hopefully you are involved enough to be emailing or talking on the phone!!!(Ya didn't say) But if so, Say to them, I have some time from work coming up, and was kinda thinking that we have been talking and seem to be getting along famously. Would you consider allowing me to come out to meet and see if we are as good in person as we are over the phone, etc. Emphasis that, there no expectations are assured from either side, but I just wanted to see how you felt about meeting and seeing if we are just this good, together?!!!! Oh and By the way, dinner is on you!!

long distance relationships do work. you just need to have alot of patience. if you truly love the person distance does not matter. with cheap airline prices with advance purchase you can fly coast to coast for under 200 dollars. plus your time together is more quality and cant wait to see each other again soon.

I agree they can work... I know cuz Im doing it, but they are very difficult.

So, Capt... where are you finding these airline tickets for under $200? The cheapest I have found to Cali from Dallas is $250 and I look at over 20 sites for airfare. Just curious...

I have to agree, it sounds good in the beginning, but time has a way of wearing it thin.

Curious, I'm with you. An hour drive is all I will consider. I'm not looking for anything serious too soon so it's best for me to stick with local people so I can date a bit and figure out what I really want. JMO

Cajun I flew out here from California to Alabama with Southwest on a $99 online only airfare special. With taxes and fees it was a total of $123!! You have to book way ahead and be flexible on the times and airport you fly out of and into. Of course weighing the cost of gas against what you would save in airfare if you choose to travel to an airport a bit farther than you usually use is definately a factor.

Mine wasn't bad at all, I flew out of Oakland airport (which was a 30 minute drive from where I was living) at 8:10am and had a 50 minute layover in San Diego. Then it was non-stop to Birmingham, AL I arrived around 5:50pm.

I didn't go through one of those sites that finds you fares. I went straight to SW airlines site through a link on one of the airports they flew in and out of. It was ticketless so checking in was a breeze. I just had to print out my confirmation and handed it to the guy who checks your luggage out front.
