| I have called members who didn't have a picture at the time (pending approval where it took so long) and didn't have much of a problem. I prefer to be optimistic and assume that these are real people truly looking for someone. So you get what you put into it.
One thing that I have noticed is that novice members are really skittish and will bolt at the first sign that you are being weird. Some are really sensitive like they are in constant re-evaluation of just what in the world are they doing looking for love on the interweeb. Fragile minds and hearts I guess.

Riverside? Well I worked in West Covina at a banking computer Org and some of my Army buddies came from Riverside . . . music, cars, good pics, good post . . .
Um, I'm a bit of a rookie, too, although probably a little more "present" than the average geek . . .
My principles are relatively simple and have worked very well for me:
Liars, cheaters, criminals, abusers 
Faceless, faker, foolishness
Honesty, honor, openness, originality 
My advice to relationships here on DH:
1) go slow . . . watch people post for a while
2) play & have fun but don't take the forums too seriously
3) avoid solicitation, but be  when someone e-mails you
4) read the profile before you communicate . . . I believe that it shows great respect when you can demonstrate that you have taken an honest interest in the person you are talking to
5) Be wary of mystery women . . . there are plenty of OFFSHORE fakers who will solicit your CC & bank info
6) Listen to Metu . . . she is my Mentor
