I find that so many people (particularly women) hate to get a wink. I don't like to be rejected and, for that reason, I don't like to be the one to reject. But if I have to, I find it a little easier to reject a wink than an email. To me, a wink is like testing the water. Rather than jumping in head first (crafting an email) you just stick your toe in. If it's cold, you don't suffer near as much! When someone takes the time to write and I find I'm not interested, it's hard for me to write back and say "I'm not interested, but thanks for writing" That's still a slap in the face (imo) no matter how polite. There's less risk with a wink and I don't feel nearly as bad if someone ignores or deletes my wink.

I guess it's all in how one looks at it. I gather that alot of people take a wink as laziness rather than just a way to test the water. To each his own. Does anyone else see it the way I do?

I agree 100%

If you're shy, apprehensive, sometimes a wink is all the courage you can muster.
As I've said before,
Almost everyone here has been burned at least once,
some more recently, or worse than others.

Who knows that wink may be the one you were really looking for.

I agree that it is like testing the waters. don't feel bad about ignoring a wink, but do feel bad about ignoring an email, especially if they have put a lot of thought into it.

My only complaint about winks is that in my profile it says I don't like them and delete them, and STILL get them, which proves that they don't read profiles but just send winks to numerous women until one responds.

men see women profiles, don't read them and send out probably 100 winks and see who responds, i do not like winks.... because its a number game, i know it.... can't take the time to write a nice note.

i dont respond.

also the guys that say in their profiles i don't chase woman ect. you have to make the first move....

i dont respond.

call it what you will, cave woman mentality, we all have some left from Darwinism, mine is i appreciate a man, who takes the time to make an effort.

and so i am still waiting.....

Some people just don't have the confidence to send an email.
A legitimate wink should be considered a compliment, read their profile, if you like wink back, if you don't like, delete, what's the problem.

Winks are an ice breaker when a person doesn't know what to say. Personally, I like messages more than winks. Shows confidence

I find nothing wrong with a wink. I'm shy and the only
way to get someone's attention for me. If I recieve no
wink or reply back then it is safe to say they are not
interested and no harm done. Send an email and get no
reply is a rejection thing. Seems to me to be more personal
to send an email and be rejected then just sending them a wink.
I stick with the winks. JMO It's up to you how you want to do it.

I'm with Virgo on this one. I feel it's lazy and I feel that the men who send them haven't taken a moment to read the very first line of my profile which states, "Please don't WINK". I think these guys cast a wide net by winking at hundreds of women and hope that one will bite.

My expectation is that someone has read my profile. They can write 2-3 lines that show me they have paid attention.

Ex:
Hi, I noticed you are an equestrian. I ride horses too. Please feel free to read my profile and if you have an interest, please drop me a line.

OR

"Hi. I see we both attended C.W. Post College. I majored in accounting. Please feel free to read my profile and if interested drop me a line".

OR

Hi. "I see you've mentored girls. I used to be Boyscout Troop Leader. Pls read my profile and if you have an interest drop me a line".

If 2-3 lines is too much effort to expend, I have no interest in wasting my time. Even if a person is shy HOW can they be too tongue tied to write 2-3 lines?
