How do you explain on line "friends" to the nay sayers in the real world? The ones who think were all better on line, that every one must be lying. I really think that the people I chat with on a regular basis are genuine, but some people don't understand it.

Hey neighbor, you don't explain it to those in the real world, as you have said about the nay sayers, those who chat on line, get dates on line, or make friends on line are going to be ridiculed by the general mass's in the "real" world. Going to take quite a few more years of high tech being around before this is ever accepted by the majority, if ever. You simply don't tell anyone, i sure don't. lol

Face it, some people just refuse to go with the times. lol If they refuse to believe there are "real" people on line, just feel sorry for them, since they are missing out in life. Being so closed minded narrows your experiences in life so much. Those that chose to be ignorant and live in the stone age just miss out on the fun in life. But then again, they say ignorance is bliss

I have to agree with you here. Even if some people are fakes, I have gotten some good advice, good laughs, and good entertainment.

I say: Don't knock it till you try it!

For real - the people I teach with and work with - I come in and say, talked on the phone to Alaska, East Coast, West Coast, Texas...blah blah blah

and they freak - then they start digging it as I tell them more.

Of course I don't tell them about the flying chairs, broken glass, drunken wh*res or the trolls....I mean why ruin Dustin's gravy train?

Now about telling my parents or my sons....?!??!?!

My folks think I'm on a "Parents without Partner's" site - somehow that just makes it so much easier on my Mom and on me.....

My sons...not happy campers.
One looks over every person on here - checking for ticks I think.
The other (a computer forensics whiz) keeps running background checks and using my credit card to get them....

Ah well - so little trust among family?

Simple CASE OF MIND OVER MATTER, iF MY FRIENDS DON'T MIND, THE REST DON'T MATTER',I don't have to explain them, by the time they become friends I know how real they are, and feel lucky to have them

The same people that poo poo online friends are probably on sites as well with friends of their own. Now a days it is not uncommon for people to be on dating sites so why would online friends be any different???

I'm ashamed to admit it, but I used to be one of those nay sayers myself. My sister and neice were using online dating some years ago when I was happily married and I definately gave them my unsolicited opinion. Ironic, because I think back when I was young and my mother told me not to condemn people for what they do because one day I may find myself wearing their shoes! How right she was. The friends I've met here on DH are genuine to me. I have a very special connection to one inparticular. I just wish that friend lived close by so we could get together regularly, and spread alittle "sunshine"

I told my older skeptical sister that my online friends are "pen pals".
She gets that.

Gone save money... Just tell your son to google Intellius. They take individual checks on people or bulk by premium service. Get the monthly or yearly and save. Watch out for background check SCAM sites as many people (some say MOST are) claim that are prolific. Many sites get a lotta info from you to sign up. Get THIS! Then LMAO! They ADD you to their database! So mostly people are checking each other in the database that signed up ROFLMAO. They also use other methods to add people to said database. Intellius used to(a year ago)be rated well. That is my last info as things always can change. And don't auto-trust a checker site just cause it's linked to a social site. Unless the checker site does it for free and there is no $$ incentive. If you find a decent free site post it here cause I sure would like to know THAT site lol. Keep that in mind when ya check out your next "punkin'".

I don't distinguish my friends. Friends are friends regardless of where they're at or how I met them.
