| Fake or masking onself only shows another part of the person..It may be a weakness or a form of protection..Someday with love and understanding this person who hides behind something to avoid the truth about themselves will be known..In Time all is in Time..So if you go around life acting like your something your not ..In the long run it only deprives you and those that care about you true peace, joy, and happiness!

| I strongly disagree. First impressions are not even near 80% accurate. Too many people assume that is true, where by they assume they can tell all about someone right off, which causes turmoil and makes those who assume they can define someone just from the first encounter, ignorant.

In your first Discussion Thread regarding why couples stop being good to one another, you were blatantly slammed by someone, and that was indeed rude and uncalled for (his comment was unfairly personal).
In this discussion, I don't see rudeness in Bry's comment, just sarcasm. He did not personalise the topic, but actually helps your point; the issue overall is a "vicious cycle" that is not always easy to escape.
You opened this with a statement; "First impressions are 99.9% accurate" - People will either agree or disagree with your personal point of view. Stack it as a question:
- - Is it possible that first impressions are 99.9% accurate? - -
(this leaves you neutral; people will either agree or disagree with the topic, and there is no personalisation)
As far as the betrayal issue; sometimes it is a matter of perception. Maybe that could have been a separate discussion:
- - If our first impressions are incorrect, do we feel betrayed by a date, or did we project something into a date's character that was never really there (over-anticipation, too many expectations)?

I also don't understand the title of the thread - do you perhaps mean "portray" rather than "betray"?
any how....
If we're referring to the people on DH and the accuracy of their portrayal upon 1st impression then I would say 99.9% is totally inaccurate a statistic.
People on DH are just like people in real life.
They have moods, they have swings, they post fo rsmart ass fun, or they post with genuine sincerity.
No one reading can know what "real" life filters have created or impacted the moods that provoke the words written in response to hypothetical questions raised here by total strangers.
And there are also present a number of master manipulators, control freaks, lonely people looking for a soap box or a spotlight in which to feed the need they have inside them.
You can't always determine THOSE issues at first glance either.
It takes some time for cream to float and the truth to be evident.
For some it takes longer than others.
In "real" life sometimes we see what we want to see and not what is real.
This is why I wear my sunglasses at night.
