If the people involved have the capacity to be loving parents and want to have a baby, I say go for it! At 38, you would be 56 when the chid graduates, which isn't so bad. I think a parent's responsibility is to be there for their child, love it, guide it, teach it right from wrong. 38 is definitely not too old to do that.

I don't mean to cynical by with the world situation today why would you be selfish enough to bring another child in to this situation? When there are thousands of children waiting to be adopted. If you can't love a child just because you didn't have it yourself.
I'm not getting down on anyone I just would really like people to consider the option, these kids are already here and need family desperately, why not solve 2 problems at once.

Well to answer you about why not adopting I would love to adopt any child with a guy that I cared about when I was in a marriage but this is not saying I would have a baby and not be married eather. I am just meaning with my medical history no agency would let me adopt I don't think. From what I hear they want able bodyed up walking type people to get the kids not people in wheelchairs and bad kidnies so having my own would be my only hope to have a child. The system does not even give us a right for that it seems. Not where I am from. All I would get where I am at is laughed at Or told I am middle age as my mom told me I was. In the state of Ga my aunt told me you cant adopt past the age of 40.

Why on earth would it be?

My husband is 40, and I'm 35. We're trying for baby #1 right now and plan on a #2 before we quit.

Nobody's business but ours.

As long as someone is capable physically and emotionally to have a child, I don't think it's too middle age. I'm 41 and would have a child now if I had the right Daddy. But, after another year or two, I think it may be bordering on getting too old for me as I still want to have energy to hang out with my child when they are 20 and 25, not just 5-10 yrs old.

think of the possibilities of the child having problems

Honestly, it's not as horrific as you might think.

This is something that we researched thoroughly before deciding to try. There are risks, but the statistics tend to paint with a very broad brush and you have to delve deeper to really make an informed decision about what's right for you. I've had three healthy pregnancies and no history of any reproductive issues, and I'm only 35 now, so the actual increased risk for me is minimal. There's more concern about my having had 3 c-sections and having another one, than the increased risk of genetic issues with the child.

I'm also a tad nervous about the fact that twins become twice as likely past 35.

One thing we did agree on was that if we cannot get pregnant without the assistance of fertility assistance, then we will be happy with the children we have and go on. We're not going to go to extreme measures to try to conceive. Not that there's anything wrong with people who do; it's just not for us at this point in our lives. If God intends us to have a child together, then we will; we're leaving this one in His hands.

My grandmother had my mother at 52 and she was the youngest of 12, so there were others before her from early 20s onto 52. And this was 1937, when pre-natal care in Puerto Rico wasn't exactly an exact science. All her births were healthy and the woman lived to the age of 89. In fact, she died 4 months after my mother died and my mother was 38 when she past away.

I have a friend who just adopted a baby from Guatemala and she's also 52, he's 1 yr old now.

So you see its all a crapshoot.

It presents it's own set of problems. But i cant see having a child if you want one as a problem. I was 30 my first. I wish i was younger to see the grandkids, but i cant regret the kids i got.

Women stop being capable of bearing children around menopause. I think their eggs run out. I think that age is around 40... It might be later now cus of advances in health and science. I"m sure it varies quite a bit just on an individual basis.

I had my last child at 36 but would not have had one much past that, in fact I had my tubes tied 3 minutes after he was born. I would not want to an OLD MOTHER.

God I hope not!! I am 41 years old, never married and no kids. I would be heartbroken if I thought it was too late for me to have a child in the next few years. My neighbor just had her 2nd at 44, and I believe Geena Davis was 46 when she had her 1st!! I think physical health, emotional and financial stability should be a person's biggest considerations, regardless of chronological age. Alyse
