I for one don't parade around town with a buck strapped to the hood of my truck...that is silly and uncalled for...I field dress it and take it to my barn to process the meat..and if PETA ever showed up around me while I am hunting, they better have their hunter orange on cuz if not, I will spray paint their candy asses, top to bottom...and I only hunt on my land and I can take whatever whenever...

Respect thats what it is all about, bonding is another issue.

We are a gun family and all of us hunt for the fun and the food.
The taste of vinison cooked the southern way just melts in your mouth.

I have taught my grand daughter to shoot a 22 since she was 4, she respects
guns and knows when to touch them and how to shoot them.
When having guns in your house and children you need to explain to them it is
only used when adults are around. Never hid a gun and expect the child to not
bother it, they to need to know the reason they are in your home.

Being around farm animals there are times when they get down and there is no
hope for them so in order for you not to watch them suffer you must put life
in your hands, teaching a child this is a tool to make them strong when life
is hard. I raised 3 great kids and they were around the same guns all their
lives and they now respect and teach their children the do's and handling of
guns.

Thats great copper...LOOL bet he never took your son again!! LOL

Excellent silk, see my earlier posts...As a farmboy We had to do exactly what you said...My daughter, as I stated, shot the 357 mag with hollow points. She knows where the guns are AND she knows what they are for...I was raised with them and NEVER thought about touching them unless my dad was there...I am a gun advocate. I am also a don't shoot unless you will eat it...(come here the one I care for) person . Nuff said.

I killed my first animal when I was around 10 or eleven. I saw it die while it looked in my eyes... I gave away my gun after and never killed again

I think one should have respect for ALL living creatures. I worked across from a slaughter house.which is why I'm a vegatarian. and it was the most heartbreaking thing to ever see. but to have a child kill defenceless animals, as if it's macho, is child abuse.what I would love to do is, go up in the mountains, dis-arm one of these macho morons. then say, I will give you a 10 minute head start. then let him feel what it is like to have someone chase him, shooting. let him feel what it is like to run for you're life with you're heart racing.one should teach their child that creatures should be respected. not to be killed just to have it's head mounted on a wall or stuffed.

yanks,

What an intelligent analogy!

Watching a cartoon and actually killing an animal are TWO different things. How could you even make such an incredibly stupid remark!?

Watching it and doing it yourself is two different things my dear.I grew up watching movies where people kill each other. should I think it's OK to kill a human being?animals are seen as a unimportant, disposable life. why should an animal die because you like the taste of it's flesh.ask yourself a question: would you be able to cut a cows throat or drive a spike through it's head? which is what they do. what about sticking a tube down a ducks throat and force feed it till it's liver explodes which where you get pate from.what about skinning a chicken while it's still alive. now if you couldn't do it because it would mentally scar you, then how could you ask a impressionable child to kill and gut an animal.

I think 4 is a bit young to go hunting. I grew up in a family that hunts, we were taught to respect guns (you sure don't bring them out to show your friends, point them at one another, etc.). A responsible hunter must have respect for nature, and that can be learned at a young age. Unfortunately, there are stupid hunters out there and I am not willing to take the risk of putting a very young child in an idiot's cross-hairs. It's not worth it.

Also learned to respect life. My father was a game cop. As kids, we also got to see what happens to herds of deer and elk when the herd grows, but there isn't enough food. They die a slow, miserable death. We also helped distribute hay, but it still isn't enough.
