it makes more sense in those situations. but im in new york state where they are developing more and more of our wilderness areas and diminishing animals traditional living spaces. then the hunters are given the green light to thin the well u cant call them herds out there. animals are being pushed into the areas where people live; i see raccoons on the street in nyc. something is really out of balance now; but i dont think its the hunters fault but the land developers.
anyway; we're all losing sight of the topic; is 4 years old a good age to take a kid hunting. and my opinion is that for a lot of kids it is too young. maybe not during the frontier days or in hunting communities where they depend on that as the only source of meat. but for a lot of 4 year olds today they are watching seseme street and seeing talking and singing animals and it affects some of them to suddenly have to deal with seeing animals killed. not ALL kids but SOME kids could have a problem and if they are that young they can't really explain it to u. oh heck maybe i'm not even explaining it well.

| Truth hurts doesn't it? My boys are 9 and they love being out in the duck blind or deer blind. They're learning to respect the animals and the sport.

| This thread is exactly what the DH community was posting about the other day! Bashing each other and taunting like little children. Do you know how many times I read something about someone taking up for another person. Is that is why your here, to "take up" for your friends? They need someone to hold their hand or something?
I never said I was against hunting. Never said I didnt eat meat. Have an issue with what my opinions were, go back and read them again. I have issues with hunting other than to put food on the table. Or to thin out over population due to our over population and developement. I do have issues when it comes to the way animals are slaughtered today to be put in a grocery store. I take issue with the chemicals and antibiotics and such they are pumping these animals full of before we eat them. Someone said eggs? Your right. Ever seen the difference in a yard egg and a mass produced egg? Big difference in taste also. I take issue with the media hype and commercialization of hunting the way it's done in the south. Yes, some rednecks surely give it a bad name. I believe the law of the land..take only what you need and give twice as much back!!! The thread was about kids and hunting and like gypsy I got upset when everyone started talking about a childs face when a child killed something. And the fact that people seem to take such pride in the fact they killed something. Sure our forefathers HAD to hunt for food, and they used every part of that animal for their use at home. SOME people nowadays pay big bucks just to hunt for the sport of hunting. There are two places in Florida that come to mind. They have acreage surrounded by 12 ft barb wire (looks like a prison camp) and they charge for "hunters" to come hunt. Sporting? Fair? yeah right!! One place turned cyotes loose for "sport" and to make a buck!!
yes copper, I was happy to see the excitement on my son's face when he killed his first buck. There's nothing different in seeing that kind of excitement than watching your son win an award for playing a sport.
IMHO there is a big difference in that! Your saying he was excited because he killed something, Not because he made a touchdown or slammed one out of the park. I'm just not sure a child fully understands the concept of putting food on the table.
You never know when that knowledge will come in handy, and it may be your only way of surviving
I don't foresee in the future a child having to provide food for the table this day and age. I own a gun and I know how to use it, great with a pistol on target. It came naturally. Doesnt take much "knowledge" to know how to pull a trigger and shoot something. Just a good eye and a steady hand. Knowledge as far as hunting the animals? Is that what knowledge? Well I probably know more about animal behavior than most and it wasnt learned from hunting them to shoot them. So if I were starving and I had the need to hunt one to shoot, I don't think I'll need a headstart to do it. hahahaha...
what's the difference of killing a deer to eat than killing a cow, chicken or a hog????
the difference is as I stated in my earlier post. The deer if shot right (which is highly unlikely) was more humane than the cow, chicken or pig that went to the slaughter house.
