| I don't know what age is too young, I allowed my son to go out with his uncle, when he was 6. I trusted my brother completely. My dad took my brothers out at young ages also, of course my mom wouldn't allow him to take me out till I was 10 (mom thing) + I had to learn how to shoot before I went out, they were taught while hunting. I guess what I'm saying is you know what's best as the parent & who you trust.
We're all still alive & we all enjoyed it, heck, most of us still do.

| Taking kids hunting is but it also depends on age, maturity and safety.

| i was made to hunt when i was 3, i would trudge after my father walking miles and miles, carrying his camp crap.
he made us deliberately kill animals so we could learn we had the ability to kill in case we ever needed to. i still remember the blood and guts.
he made us skin animals, the hole bit... it was during the kennedy 60's and everyone was talking nuke ... so my father said .. if it happened we had to be prepared....
no nuke, hate hunting.... hate guns...
like bambi, thumper, willey squirrel, and cow jump over the moon...
hate hunting... and so does my neighbor whose nephew's head was shot out when very experienced hunter tripped over a bottom vine and BAM!!! goes his brains
for what ... so you can say Yea man i killed a dear... i'm a man now...
cows have to suffer so we can eat... okay... sucks but i get it... but to go out and kill does, and young bucks so you can say.... i killed a dear... is ridiculous, and if you had to live my life you would say so too.
you want deer meat. buy it processed at a deer farm. or better yet give them some corn... thats not in a 40 gallon stand. while you sit in a deer stand with your kid talking the same thing you could be talking about with a camera. love nature... take a picture. its much lovelier than brains and guts....

| I did post to the issue before, but as an ex hunter and a gun advocate i will post one final time. I do think it is up to you on the age you want your children to hunt, and like I said I was 12 before my dad took me. But, I would ask you all to start with small arms (BB guns, pellet guns) and teach children gun safety. If you can, have them go through a hunter safety program...someone stated here a child was shot...not something any of us wants to happen to our children...and finally some people will never accept your position on this issue, but that is OK, it is a lifestyle. Enjoy, be safe and make sure you give the age some harfd and serious thought. God Bless you all.

| Here in SD, I think the age is 14, but they MUST complete a Firearm Safety Course before they get a Licsense. I still think that 14 is too young.jmo
