| USA, I'm so sorry. That would be an awful experience for a child. I'm sure your father meant well though.
I agree animals that go through slaughter houses have to suffer the utmost cruelty. Since I'm involved with horses I've done a lot of research on the slaughtering of them. I cannot even open some of those websites or read the horrific torture they go through. I hate seeing a cattle truck on the road and thinking of their demise. I lived close to a chicken plant and I know first hand what they are subjected to. I believe the drugs they feed the chicks to grow them off so fast is what is making young girls mature much faster than they normally would. I believe the antibiotics they give cows will eventually leave us not being able to utilize antibiotics given to us. I think mad cow disease comes from the fact that cows were fed other cow parts (cannabalism) for the protein to grow them off faster. You don't mess with mother nature..bad things happen such as mad cow disease. Here in the US we didnt have it because it's not allowed. But what is allowed is to do the same thing via feeding cows, pigs parts ect. I posted an article a while back about that last scare and the filth and cruelty involved in it.
I agree there are good and bad hunters. I see nothing wrong with hunting if it is to provide food and done in a fair way. I have also studied euthanasia vs a bullet to the head and you'd be quite surprised as to which is REALLY the most humane of the two.
I also understand that since WE HUMANS have continued to populate and leave little wilderness for the wild animals that there is a need to eradicate some for the benefit of the entire herd. Since there is no natural occurance of survival of the fittest they would over populate leading to disease and such. So, yes through our own fault there is a need to extinguish some. If that has to be by hunting them for food it's probably the best way to do it.

| doowopden...It's the animal nuts like you that don't understand how the food chain works.
You complain about developments which I agree are out of control but people have to go somewhere. You complain about the strip malls and such. Maybe you should never go to a store or mall & maybe you should sell your house...better yet, tear it down so that some habitat could be regained for the animals and maybe you should live out in the woods amongst these wonderful creatures and become one with them. It's one thing to respect animals but there is the extreme which you seem to be, you are one of those people that regard animal life above human life. I'd be willing to bet that at some point you have shopped at one of these strip malls that displaced these animals.
I grew up rural and I've been that way my entire life except for the 4 months that I lived in the city. Growing up my father didn't hunt, he hunted when he was kid but developed a dislike for the cold as he aged an just didn't do it anymore. I have that same dislike which is probably why I don't go more often. I enjoy rabbit hunting and would like to try bear hunting, deer hunting does not really interest me because I have better things to do than to sit there in the cold and wait for this animal to come walking by, to me hunting is going to find what you are hunting for and taking it not sitting and waiting for it. I'm al for hunting as long as it's not just for hide and you are actually using the meat.
As far as another poster talking about how cows are slaughtered and all that...that's why myself, cousins, uncles all do it ourselves. We raise them, we slaughter them, and we butcher them, the end result is plenty of meat for all of us and our families and friends, a much better quality meat than the shot full of chemical stuff you buy in the store and less money leaving our pockets.
You aren't dealing with someone who moved to the country...I've been country, I would never abuse any animal, I get my thrills in other ways. Personally after this year I absolutely hate deer! Twice this year I've hit one with my truck causing a total of more than $15,000 in damage to my truck between the two, I for one couldn't care less if the deer has a place to live right now and frankly I say f**k the deer! We have a deer population in Ohio of more 900,000 and it's the animal nuts that throw a fit when thinning the heard is mentioned. They did in the cleveland area two years ago and the meat went to homeless shelters....they thin the heard and the population was still 900,000 this year. And don't even tell me about sprawl being the cause of bambi running out in front of my truck....go to southern ohio...there isn't a whole hell of alot of sprawl there. Also don't blame it on a hunter because both deer I hit were after hunting season.
If you want to love all animals....even those that would do nothing more than kill you within seconds then go ahead but don't go throwing stones to those of us who may not like bambi as much as you do, don't throw stones at those who choose to hunt and do it for what it was intended for.
coppermare...I completely agree with you when it comes to the slaughter houses, I too live on a horse farm and have actually bought horses at auction just to keep them away from the meat man that was also bidding on them.
doowopden...now why make it personal with the guy and bring his kid into it? Way to make yourself look like jackass!

| I'm gonna have to back tha hunters......I've been huntin since I can remember its not a hobby or interest its just WHAT WE DO come fall. I have 3 nephews and around 5 we started them huntin........but mainly cause they squal and holler if you dont take them.......one is now 8 and he's killed a few deer but its not about killing usually they talk and move around too much anyway. I personally am a killing machine.....at least I'm honest. when we take our huntin trips to West TX every year we hammer all kinda shit. Hogs, coons, javelina, deer, turkey, jackrabbits, armadillo, how do you think an outdoorsmen improves his shooting skills? the only thing I let walk is deer and I'm very selective of what I shoot

| Oh yea!I think we need to teach all our kids the thrill of takeing the life of a liveing creature. As for a age i would think they should be able to handle it by the time they hit 25 but as we all know they need to be brain washed into what we want then to believe as soon as possible.I would say rent them a good nature show first and show them how brutal nature is and how the food chain works.

| I agree Homesteder...I never enjoyed killing an animal...the initial thrill was there but I felt bad for the animal...I know, I'm a p*ssy...but I never killed an animal I didn't eat, except for that damn rabbit that ran out in front of my truck...I shot a bear in Maine and it was cool but sad...I ate everybit of it and had a rug made of her hide...sounds cruel to some...but I value life much more after hunting...11 or 12 for hunting...with a responsible adult..but not younger...jmo

| Who says it's about the thrill of taking a life? Maybe it's the enjoyment of being outside, maybe it's the fact that the meat you are going to have is far more healthy than the meat you buy in a store. It has nothing to do with getting kids to think it's a thrill to kill something. And yeah....show them a nature video...show them how nature is far more brutal to it's self than what we could ever be.
Now the above video...it's fine and all but to me...if you are sitting and waiting that ain't hunting. Anybody can sit and wait and eventually have a shot if you sit there long enough. To me hunting is going and finding what it is you are trying to kill not just sitting there and waiting.
