I believe anyone that chooses to lie does it for two basic reasons.
1. They don't believe in themselves enough
2. They have learned by lying they can get what they want Short term..
What they haven't figured out is it will come back and bite you in the butt.

| well it depends on your definition of a lie.
what a lie to you, would mean to others as a kindness.
say you weren't looking top form that day. and you ask "how do i look", and he would say "great", well really he knew you didn't but he did not want to hurt your idea of your own self-image by damaging your self esteem. which by the way is damaged or insecure if you have to ask a man that question in the first place.
now if it is a lie in which he is doing something that is against your relationship, and would ultimately cause physical or psychological injury or damage that is irreversible.
well thats a different story.
i would guess, he is a sneak, a cheater, a blah blah blah.... in other words, he has personal issues he has to learn and overcome to be a better man.
wouldn't want to be involved with that, would not be emotionally healthy for you. these people tend to feed off needy women, so you also may need to look at your self to see why they are targeting you, what signals are you putting out???
just my opinion.. jmo i learned that recently, all these abbreviations..lol

people lie all the time.
there are two types of lie (for this example).
one is a partial truth...which is a piece of the full truth which is seldom ever managed by most. ..<..lie by omission.
the other is an intended deception...which rankles the ankles....and a few toes. ...lie by commission. and lie by omission can also be an intentional deception.
even those which speak the truth with some persistent practice as they believe in can be opened up to know more of the reality which they believe to be final.
we are not (you and i included) not giving of our full loving beings in any moment.
if we were we would not need to tap our fingers on a keyboard to show how we want another to perceive us....to be.
when are you peeps gonna start paying me for all of this kindness...you never show appreciation for. that would be truth which i could enjoy.
