I dig on quite a few reigions and mythologies, both for the concepts and relation to life. One of my favorite ideas came from the Greek/Roman mythology of the gods. In their mythos, none of the gods or goddesses were innocent of wrong doing save one. This was Prometheis, who gave fire back to man in defiance of the other god's will. He was a god himself, but wished to treat men as equals rather than underlings there to worship. He had walked amoung them, and was disliked by his fellow gods for this. After returning fire to man, Zeus had Prometheis chained to a boulder where a vulture would daily eat his liver out, only to regrow that night, and repeated everyday for a thousand years. After the thousand years had passed, Zeus released him and forged a ring of stone from the boulder he had been chained to. Prometheis would be forced to wear this ring to remind him what defying the will of the god's would result in. But this mattered little, and he wore it with pride. The followers of Prometheis wore rings carved from stone to show their appreciation of what he was willing to go through to help humankind. Incidently, Prometheis had the aforementioned vulture killed, which shows forgiveness has its' limits even for him.

its beatifull, people nowadays look at theese stories as MYTHOLOGY, but actually its a religiouse scripture, and people then used it as their holy scripture, and its beautifull, i read the odysee long time ago and i remember the titles they use to call their gods, its very similar to what muslim and chrystians called god and the titles thye gave him, very interesting,

"Myth was regarded as primary; it was concerned with what was thought to be timeless and

constant in our existence. Myth looked back to the origins of life, to the foundations of

culture, and to the deepest levels of the human mind. Myth was not concerned with practical

matters, but with meaning. Unless we find some significance in our lives, we mortal men and

women fall very easily into despair. The mythos of a society provided people with a context

that made sense of their day-to-day lives; it directed their attention to the eternal and

the universal."-- Karen Armstrong,

"Both deism and traditional Judeo-Christian-Islamic theism must also be contrasted with

pantheism, the notion attributed to Baruch Spinoza (d. 1677) that the deity is associated

with the order of nature or the universe itself. This also crudely summarizes the Hindu

view and that of many indigenous religions around the world. When modern scientists such

as Einstein and Stephen Hawking mention 'God' in their writings, this is what they seem to

mean: that God is Nature."-- Victor J Stenger,

I can relate to that.

skunk:

some how i disagree with you, this is an analyses of what we call nowadays a myth, when that story, script, writing, latirature, epci, or a myth or what ever you call it, it was a holy script, what we call nowadays devine, its the voice of the gods, their own teachings, or the path to it, like the books of the prophits or genisis, in the bible, and it was a componenet of a well established religion, what most of us forget is that these mythologies are holy scripture, including prayes, stories and laws- as in hamoraby's code as an example, and represent a religion, as an institution.

its an interesting subject, iam with you it is our collective consiouse

Not a religion but Humanism is a philosophy of life inspired by humanity and guided by reason. It provides the basis for a fulfilling and ethical life without religion.

Humanists make sense of the world using reason, experience and shared human values.
Humanists see no convincing evidence for gods, the supernatural, or life after death.
Humanists believe that moral values are properly founded on human empathy and scientific understanding.
Humanists believe we must live this life on the basis that it is the only life we'll have -- that, therefore, we must make the most of it for ourselves, each other, and our world.
Humanist philosophies have arisen separately in many different cultures over many thousands of years. Whether or not they use the term humanism, tens of millions of Americans and hundreds of millions of people around the world agree with the humanist philosophy of living a happy and productive life based on reason and compassion.

No matter where you read it,
Or who said it,
Even if I have said it,
Unless it agrees with your own reason
And your own common sense."

Our life is shaped by our mind; we become what we think. Joy follows a pure thought like a shadow that never leaves."~Siddhartha Guatama Buddha

what i meant, is those WRITINGS are scriptures, how ever you analyes them or categorize them, for some people they are just silly old stories, but they where holy writings as any holy book, they lead societies into a very specified set of beliefs.

zeus was not a super hero like SPIDER MAN, nor fictiouse he was the HEAD GOD of the greecs, this what i want to say, to give these religions the legitmacy they desreve, and for us after chrystianity, to re consider those religions , to tell you how deep this goes, from the kananite and phinecian culture, BAAL was the GOD of irrigation, the people of palestine lebanon and syria still call the vegtables and fruits that rely on rain only not artifical irrigation as BAAL fruit and vegtables, baal is still alive,

I assume that myths derive from many sources for several reasons. I do not regard them as "silly", but communicating something important. Myths are considered "holy" now, so why not in the ancient past. But, even then, as far back as we can discern, the myths/stories were communicating something ancient and forgotten except in myth.

I respect Buddhism....they actually require that you be a good person. I noticed none of the middle east religions require that. I also have alot of admiration for Bushido. (no, it has nothing to do with GW so don't waste your time with a bad joke)

I didn't care for the Norse mythos so much, but the concept of the World Tree was interesting. The plains of existance were represented by the sections of the tree and ground below it. Technically, anyone could use a tree to show their idea of existence in much the same way as the Norse. For that matter, it doesn't even have to be a tree. In the Dark Tower, by Stephan King, even a rose had been used as a representation of one plain of existence. Kind of cool for a story I suppose.

never met a religion I didn't like..
something about all have useful lessons or values.
good can be found if your looking for it. people tend to see what they're looking for...

bottom line is intent is what matters. God doesn't care if something blows up. especially if you were researching cancer cures.
Nobody knows your mind. man may mistakenly reward a evil doer, or punish a innocent.
But there is Oneness and it is aware of what your thinking. just as you are aware of life. For you to exist something else HAS to be aware of your existance.

the LDS for traditional extreme. (it is their tru mindset) whether right or wrong. full immersion baptism, sacrifice demon possessed, temple baptism for the dead. and way more extreme stuff.

drgenescott.com for smoking cigars in the pulpit. parading around bikini babes and prize race horses in the background while asking for donations! Also the sing "kill a pissant for Jesus" as a church song. he married a porn star that used to be a bikini babe on the show. died in 2005 and she is the preacher now!

Muslim faith for confirming my translation of the Holy Bible (which means it IS a extention of Gods Word). they have a pure gold statue of a lion encrusted with jewels. belief is the lion will come BACK to life in 2012 (only a non believer would name a day. The day must be considered rumor.. praise Allah) again they believe their intent is Gods literal work. Qu-ran says cut off right hand of theif plainly. (means right hand of God not literal) kill infidels/non believers (means in your mind "they're dead to you" in other words).

the best lessons and values come from hands on. your own personal church. the doors you are in front of may have never seen a man before. some would call it coincedence that a past experience is the key needed to open the door before you.

I believe all doors can be opened. if you believe life is a test then there must be a way to pass it (open the door), or else the test could never be passed
