| Defense Secretary Robert Gates said Tuesday that sending a second U.S. aircraft carrier to the Persian Gulf could serve as a "reminder" to Iran, but he said it's not an escalation of force.
Another aircraft carrier in the gulf..Is it needed or just a big fat waste of time and money? Julia

After seeing Iran's nuclear walkthrough a few days ago, I could only hope if anything happens (which I hope it doesn't) would happen from the air.

| Admittedly the US is conducting covert operations to destabilize Iran, probably much worse actions is they are openly admitting the limited hangout "destabilize." Compound that with unannounced naval exercises and other threats...
What might cause the force majeur event of the required scale? Everything seems to indicate that Israel will be sacrificed. Its involvement in a war with Iran - especially in a nuclear war - is bound to trigger a global catastrophe. The statehoods of Israel and Iran are based on the countries’ official religions. A military conflict between Israel and Iran will immediately evolve into a religious one, a conflict between Judaism and Islam. Due to the presence of numerous Jewish and Muslim populations in the developed countries, this would make a global bloodbath inevitable.
The aim of this step, which coincides entirely with the end of the UN deadline, is to send a clear message to Iran that a military option is available to Washington.

| My thought is that it is entierly posible Nothing we may say or do would stop Israel from strikeing Iran at some pont. But if done we would be ready to assist as needed? Just a thought.

| Israel isn't going to hit Iran without our approval. They can't get there without our approval. The IAF doesn't have the aerial refueling capability to enable their aircraft to hit Iran without our help. Take a look at a map, they physically can't do it without our approval or logistical support. Two carriers in the Gulf region isn't new or unique, but it does give the on scene commander additional flexibility if he's tasked to perform any mission. The US Air Force has more aircraft and capability sitting in the Gulf right now on airfields than 5 carrier air wings, and more than enough capability to take care of the Iranian forces.

| Gman knows his stuff. The isolation of Isreal requires careful coordination with it's allies out side of Isreali borders. (with the exception of truly covert ops) The existing Naval fleet in the Gulf and any additional support that arrives off shore as well as the airbases in Saudi, Afghanistan and Iraq further provide weight that Isreal can use for implied capabilities. However any overt actions will have to be coordinated with and confirmed by both US and Isreali administrations. Even so....the threat of deployable nukes within minutes notice will affect the anti-west segments mind sets wether they like it or not. I would guess they won't like it.
Don't sweat it Gman....Sure I am a shallow narccisist. But, at least I got a sense of humor. The humorless nag birds around here are gonna have to step up thier game to run me off. Hell...I spent 6 years with an evil Mexican woman named Elvira (I ain't kidding) None of these birds come close to the misery that that woman dealt me!

| That is true One.....but consider this....A person with head hung low and sloped shoulders is a victim...a person with head held high and a direct gaze into the eyes of an antagonist gets treated differently.
Dogs are a good example....the ones with the posture of the curled spine and a tucked tail lets you know immedieately that they are used to having thier asses kicked. The Guard dog who will not break eye contact will definitely change your/ my behaviour around them....Suddenly caution is absolutely required.....posture speaks louder than words my man.
