With $1.00 we could get into the theater, buy a bag of popcorn and a drink.
A $1.00 worth of gas would keep us crusing all day long.

I know what you mean, Sugie

I would cut grass for $2 or $3 depending on the size. Now they want $30 or $40.

Don't worry granny a sawbuck of beans will still give ya plenty of gas to cruise all day so long as ya don't invite every Tom, D*ck n Harry to tug on yor fanger...

What I remember most.......my Dad worked hard everyday of his life to take care of all of us and my Mom stayed home. We had a wonderful childhood, alot of fond memories.
Today.......most children don't have those kind of memories. Their memories consist of divorce, Dad leaving (Mom's too !!), broken families..........after all, the divorce rate is over 50 % now !!! It's sad that you can change spouses like you change your shoes !!

I had 9 brothers and sisters and my mom and dad rented a 150 acre farm for $50 a month. They paid less in over 20 years of living there than we do in a year's interest in our mortgage payments.

The house was a 100+ old 3 story farm house with no central air or heat. Wood burning stove and fans. No A/C. Today we would die without it. But think of how much my parents saved on energy costs.

And there was always something to do whether it was riding the 3 wheelers in the pond to see how muddy we could get or just building a fire or burning down the barn. Shit kids did and just got a spanking over instead of being taken into DFS custody today. LOL

I remember watching HE-HAW on tv because you only had one back then and dad watched whatever he wanted when he got home. Now I know why he watched it...it was those chicks that popped out of the cornfield.

Everything you needed or could want to do, was just a bike ride away.

I bought Marlboro cigarettes out of a vending machine in front of the grocery store when I was 11 for 50cents
You had to pay an extra nickel to buy them outside after all it was much more convenient

When I was under 7 I lived on a dirty road, not gravel...DIRT. They blacktopped in when I was 7? maybe 8, I remember sticking my toes in the hot tar when we would walk to the story.

My sister and I would go to the roller skating rink on friday and saturday nights. We would walk up there by ourselves and then back again when the session was over. We also had only 3 channels on the tv and had to get up to change the channel...

Penny candy really did cost a penny, and a treat for lunch was a bag of Doritos and a Coke at the corner store that had a worn wooden floor. My 9 year old didn't understand what black and white tv was until she found I Love Lucy. She is hooked on it now, so we both watch it. Same with the Adams Family.

All these posts were great!! I remember most things....

The post above me brought back recent memories...when we moved a little over a year ago now, we found an old b/w tv that was left at the house and my kid was absolutely amazed. Had never seen a b/w or a channel tuner vhf/uhf. We found and old typewriter as well. Had alot of fun with that, typing letters to mom. I grew up with that kind of tv and learned to type on that kind of typewriter. lol

Now back to the gas thing...am so upset with myself. Needed gasoline yesterday and was just too tired from a long day at work thinking well I'll stop and get some tomorrow. When am I gonna learn? WHEN???? Gas went up 25 cents overnight!

Can remember playing football or baseball in the streets with all the neighborhood kids until the sun goes down, now you have to watch kids 24/7 and worry about if they are carrying weapons and such.
