Hi monique08...

Most likely you will go through Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression and Acceptance.

The last stage of this is having gratitude or acceptance of what happened. It's my belief that people come into our lives for a reason. Some play the good guys and some play the bad guys. It's all about learning and growing.

Try to see what the gift (in the good times and the breakup) this person actually gave you. I know it is hard when you go through something ugly or painful to seriously find something good about it. But there is something. There always is.

I just went through a very hideous experience that I wasn't sure I was going to survive actually. But I did. I can now see, 3 years later, what the gift was. The gift was a gift of Self. That might be hard for someone your age to understand.

I am now able to see these peoples' "innocence" (meaning, they are good people at heart, they just became a bit misguided because of their circumstances... desperate people do desperate things...)

When you can have gratitude, you can truly have forgiveness. It also creates space for something new to come in, when you aren't spending all your energy dwelling on what they did to you.

And the hardest part -- forgive yourself for maybe not seeing it coming, or doing better, or whatever thoughts you might be beating yourself up over... Don't do the "should-a, would-a, could-a's..." Don't make it about you, but definitely take responsibility for any part you had in the breakup. It usually is never just the other person's fault, even when they "do you wrong" or "betray" you.

That's my experience...

Ev

Go through stages, But mostly one day at a time, Eventually you will take the good and the Ugly and learn from them. If you don't then you will just keep repeating them.

I take it one day at a time. Would have a drink but that never solves anything plus the next day I feel really awful. Chocolate works.
