This advice was sent by a retired State Farm agent! This system has been
tried and it works in every state.

If you get a speeding ticket or went through a red light or whatever the
case may be, and you're going to get points on your license this is a method
to ensure that you DO NOT get the points.

When you get your fine, send in a check to pay for it. If the fine is $79.00
make the check out for $82.00 or some small amount over the fine. The
system will then have to send you back a check for the difference, however
here is the trick.

DO NOT CASH THE REFUND CHECK! Throw it away!

Points are not assessed to your license until all financial transactions
are complete.

If you do not cash the check, then the transactions are NOT
complete. The system has received its money and is satisfied and will no
longer bother you.

This information comes from an unmentionable computer company that sets up
the standard databases used by every state

I'll have to remember that...but I usually don't get tickets for speeding. Thanks for the heads up!

I tried it once. All it succeeded in doing for me was putting off the time frame as to when my insurance company picked up the information. I never did receive a refund check. I had to carry the points on my insurance a full year after the ticket points were off my actual license.

Just don't get the ticket in the first place and if you do, just pay it without all the games.

Newlife I never had to try it but a friend of mine said it worked for him. Maybe its a Michigan thing.

At the time I was living in NJ and the ticket was from VA. It definitely did not work for me. Only postponed the inevitable. It was the only ticket I had though so at least it didn't cost me any surcharges with the state or on my insurance. Just seems to me that in the end it was more a pain than it was worth.

I don't believe this for a second.
This is an urban myth.

I've had my share of tickets; in fact I've lost a job because of accumulating them. I don't have an idea on keeping points off your license. You should not get points for being caught by those "traffic light" cameras. Those are like ATM's to a municipality. They want your money and don't care about points. I have a good way to get out of tickets though.

1. Try not to speed. Throw the radar detector in the trash because they're worthless.
2. It helps to have a clean MVR. When 5-O runs your tags and there are no priors, your chances of being wrote up drop considerably. It does help if you have no moving violations in the previous 12 to 24 months. Your chances of a ticket increase if the MVR comes back with prior violations.
3. Whether or not you have priors, always admit to the officer your transgression that resulted in being pulled-over. In my experience, cops reward honest drivers with a warning and punish others who deny any wrongdoing.

In the last 12 months or so, I've been pulled over 4 or 5 times. Speeding home from work, driving a couple blocks without my lights on, illegal parking, operating with a burn out low-beam headlight, and illegal window tint. In all cases I've been let-off w/ a warning.

To be honest, I should have gotten a ticket for the speeding. (15 or 20 over in a 35 zone)

In every instance I just agreed with everything the cop said, admitted to my infraction, and was released after a minute or two. I've always pulled over immediately once I seen the cherry bars light up.
Don't try to play the "I didn't see your lights" or "I thought you were gonna pull over the other guy" routine. I've talked to cops and they hate people who say that and usually write them up.
