Understand the three kinds of relationships you have in your life. People who leave you alone are dealing with your suffering as a nuisance or inconvenience; they prefer to keep their distance in order to feel better themselves. Those who help you have the strength and awareness to do more with your suffering than you are able to do by yourself. Those who hurt you want the situation to stay the same because they do not have your well-being at heart. Honestly count how many people are in each category you have in your life. This isn’t the same as counting friends and loving family members. Assess others solely as they relate to your difficulties. Having made a realistic count, take the following attitude: 1. I will no longer bring my problems to anyone who wants to leave me alone. It’s not good for them or me. They don’t want to help, so I will not ask them to. 2. I will share my problems with those who want to help me. I will not reject genuine offers of assistance out of pride, insecurity, or doubt. I will ask people to join me in my healing and make them a bigger part of my life. 3. I will put a distance between myself and those who want to hurt me. I do not have to confront them, guilt-trip them, or make them the cause of my self-pity. But I cannot afford to absorb their toxic effect on me, and if that means keeping my distance, I will. irresistiblered Aurora, CO age: 43	I have some experience with this issue...most women in an abusive, toxic relationship, will NOT leave until they are mentally and emotionally ready. It takes a lot of strength and pursuation for a woman to leave, since the very first thing they loose is their self-confidence AND self-respect. The men make them belive they are good for nothing, and responsible for the situation. They are cut off from their family and friends, they feel that there is no hope or help from any where or any one. The events that actually make them to wake up and try to seperate themselves are usually extreme, dangerous situations...such as seeing the children or pets in danger, or any loved one. There are centers and organization in any area, which would give considerable help for women in these circumstances. One last thing...abuse can come in many forms...emotional and verbal abuse is normally the worst and more popular form of abuse. Don't disregard them, just because he is not hitting you, doesn't mean that his emotional abuse is any less effective and hurtfull.

winesong Bend, OR age: 88	How are we doing... have we removed ourselves from a TOXIC source in the last 3 days? I see several people left Datehookup... 2 men, and at least one woman..(Belladreams). (see chat room posts). I am not advocating leaving DH.. just choose your conversational subjects, and on line people to conversate with... conserve your positive energy..walk past those subjects that rip open your pain wound, or a person that irritates you... Life is good... Oprah is on now with PAST LIFE REGRESSIONS... now that should be interesting! Be Well, Wine

pichick712 Brookhaven, PA age: 50	I think I would have been had I stayed with my most recent ex. I was soooooooooooooo distraught, so hurt, and so upset but now I see that he would have turned out to be a very controlling person. To end things (he dumped me because I was in DH playing in the forums) without even listening to me, and jumping to the conclusion that I was cheating on him is ridiculous. he would have only become more suspicious/jealous WITHOUT CAUSE and ending it later on would have been hard. It's a shame because I was in love with him but I cannot/willnot be in another abusive/toxic relationship.

I am the beneficiary of a good life. I have been treated very well, and I would do each of my chapters over again. No regrets, no abuse... I am observer...of life. I have no connections to Viet Nam, or Iraq, or 911, within my family. I have not been married to or been involved with anyone that suffers post traumatic syndrome. That would be the foundation for my life....I have not lost a child to death. Take what you need and leave the rest... (you have set yourself up as a professional) he who has himself for a client is surely a fool. Apparently you have suffered some type of a severe mis-fortune to be so bitter and negative on a public forum. I do feel that you lack compassion, kindness and a willingness to attract good, positive things to you... Warm up to life, you can become one of the positive influences... with your education. A smile would do you good today.... I know it would help me...I have very few disagreements on DH... for a reason. I like to feel good about coming into DH to chat with people. Be Well, Wine
