I was getting 25 to 35 winks a day. I don't have time to reply to all them winks as my eyes get tired.
Even after writing in my profile to please not bother sending me winks I still get 6-8 per day. It tells me that the senders are lazy and haven't taken the time to read my profile or are just too inconsiderate to respect my request.
If they wish to take the time to write an email and introduce them self, well I will damn sure take the time to reply.
I personally view the wink as an irritating method to say hello. If you feel the inclination to say hello, why be irritating in doing so. It should be worth at least the effort one might expend making a forum post.

25-35 a day, kewl and you found that irritating, sad to hear in no way should one even think lazy, most profiles read after an initial interest is generated from reading posts etc., which seemingly shows a basic pic of what they may be like, how they respond to topics.........now a profile developed as we go along, profiles everchanging..........hardly anyone knows actually what to put on profile from the beginning because we adapt, we change and we evolve , hell, I dont have a stiff-shirt in my closet !!!

Tusk I didn't jump immediately to the decision to simply delete winks. It developed over time as I discovered that some people view the wink function as merely a wave hello, some use it to express interest and others use it to annoy. I don't know how long you have been here, but as time and your experience evolves you will likely regard the wink function much the same as I do.
Also in reference to your comment about the forum posts. Only about 5% of all DH members even post in or read the forums. We are actually a rather small community here on the forums and most of us are aware of how others view the wink and email features of DH and we try to respect it. Since I joined DH in December I have not initiated contact with another user that was not in response to the forums. Others email at random frequently. I have no idea what the response rate is, but I know it does get annoying at time having a couple hundred emails to respond to and most are gals far too young for us older farts and winks.

I'd have to simply say Tusko - you're a newbie.

Stick around and you'll understand, (or possibly not) why winks are meaningless, and not worth anything but deleting - UNLESS THEY ARE FROM FRIENDS AND PEOPLE YOU KNOW!

I don't respond to a wink from a Stranger, because I have no clue at all what the person winking is saying or intending.

There's no clarity and I'm not going to reply and give some whack job a "come hither" wink.

There are enough bold whack jobs on DH who simply feel free to crawl out from under the logs and debris without invitation.

Winking at them, or returning a wink - merely increases the lunacy.

You'll find out.
Or maybe not.

How sad...

I didn't think those numbers .. age, DOB, etc. determined whether or not, I should acknowledge people.

I think DH should incorporate a notpad for us on here ... so we can keep track of all of these odd quirks ... ie. enable us to make lists ... Put this guy on my 'DO NOT WINK' list. Then I would have to start more'lists' comparing personality traits ...

I think I just need my old pc & it's programs back ... then I can chart & graph everyone ... like those comparison charts you see when searching for an RV park ... who has it & who doesn't???

I apologize (again) for not following a pre-subscribed list of social ettiqute here!... ie. If I winked in error, don't hold it against me ...

I keep my friends and the people I know close.........a wink from a stranger opens the door to perhaps NEW friends and NEW people to know, I choose not to live in a box, never to experience what MIGHT be out there and I am not afraid of the shadowpeople......... Besides if my friends keep winking at me Id be worried !!!

Hahahahaha...........I shall never "WINK" again...........Good posts people, been a blast........its fifty fifty in the long run, we as a species are way to picky, we open doors perhaps to some who need not have the door opened but hey............thaz life, we enter into things without thinking and we also enter or shy away from things thinking wayyyy to much, so much it makes us afraid of life.........be not afraid, be cautious in the approach but do not stick the head in the sand and the a** in the air ( Ummmmmmmm) to being here to live..............is what we are here for !!!

Even though I am new...I'm starting to see what you "veterans" are talking about. I don't mind the winks (I do like the attention) until I find out that the winker has no info on his profile, has not bothered to READ mine and see what I'm looking for (just looking at pictures) or has no intentions of being serious or at least speaking like a gentleman and is just here to jerk off on the phone or in IM. (phone sex was my thing in HIGH SCHOOL...I've graduated since then)

The site is about opening communications between compatable people and for anyone to take the rather jaded view that a wink or even a short e-mail is worthless is sad. If you want a small group of friends to talk to at the exclusion of all else, then pick out a chat room and ignore new members. I'll continue to send the occasional wink and to respond to all of those I recieve.
