I believe the "Shame" of Rushdie, is that rather than his own departure from religion, he is now prejudiced against those that still have faith, and while I may choose to agree with Rushdie and John Lennon that I would like to "Imagine"the world could be a different place, I understand that life is not so entropic that Paul Harvey is not closer to the truth when he tells me, "It is not one world". I believe that is very important to continue to grow your vocabulary but to find "my" meaning to , "Life the Universe and Everything". I believe I will recognize and embrace my prejudices against the arrogant French, the bloodthirsty dictators, against my own gluttonous countrymen. I savor my intolerance of people who vote down a party line or without any depth of knowledge of personal beliefs or issues. I hold on with vigor my intolerance of those that are ignorant and not only choose to stay that way but wear it like a thorny crown. I will continue to loath my Shiite Mormon brothers who espouse, vigorously their superior family values, and then ignore our ailing father. I further condemn proudly any other fundamentalist load of bovine scat espoused by those that claim tolerance only so far I agree with them. I believe, (within reason) I will embrace and enjoy the knowledge and understanding of the world around me in and through the different cultures philosophies, theosophies and beliefs of the people around me with those same people for no other cost to them, then they tolerate my culture philosophy, theosophy and beliefs. I believe in goddess or earth oriented religions that think in a circle, not however in the linear philosophy of the Judaeo Christian. Although, I do believe I would fight and die for their right to believe in the manner that they choose I believe in the soul, the small of a woman's back, that child molesters and rapists should be shot immediately upon conviction, high fiber, good scotch, red wine and dark chocolate, that the novels of Susan Sontag are self-indulgent, overrated crap. I believe Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve. . . . I believe in long, slow, deep, soft, wet kisses that last three days (OK I stole that last part.). . . . I believe I will have another beer. . . . I believe . . . You get the point.
