I'm a generally happy go-lucky kind of gal, who has been responsible for herself since my divorce in 1972, so I guess you could say I'm pretty independent. I grew up in RI and MA and moved to Statesville, NC, just a bit over a year ago, and I'm now looking for someone to show me the southern way of life. 
I have 3 "children" ages 21, 40, & 41, all adults and living on their own. The two older ones are men now, married with their own families, and between them I have 7 grandchildren. My daughter is the youngest and still trying to learn the ropes of living on her own. Suddenly it isn't as easy as mom made it look. So far, she has no children, which is great because she isn't ready for that responsibility yet. I've been retired since 1993 and recently started looking for a part time job to fill the hours, so I decided to sign up as a substitute teacher. It had been a long time since I had been in the classroom but it took no time to feel at home again! I enjoy many things and love learning about people, places, and things. I was a social worker for 20 years in MA and before that I taught school. Both of which I miss.
Some of my loves include, but aren't limited to: books, traveling, movies, TV, all things medical in nature, oil painting, crochet, and my fat lazy cat! LOL! I also love to learn anything new, and would really like to see and share, what you like to do for relaxation. Want to get my attention? Teach me something new or a new way to do something old. I'm just as comfortable in jeans as I am in a gown or anything in between, and have no problems meeting and conversing with new people.
I'm fairly open about my life ... in my 62 years, I've seen enough to fill many books and I actually hope to sit and write one, someday -- soon. I can keep you laughing at my adventures or crying at some things I've experienced. I've been accused of being a "tease" (in good way) and having "bedroom brown" eyes. That is up to you to judge. I must admit, I have a very easy, welcoming smile because I love people. I'm open to just about anything that isn't dangerous -- eg, jumping out of planes or off bridges! PS: The pictures seen here were taken in late October, 2005 ... the bottom one actually shows a photo-shopped edition ... no wrinkles in the face but there still are some telltale marks on the hands and arms, if you are alert, but the others are all me as I am, though not shown are the glasses I wear all the time, and my hair is now shorter than seen here.
(Last week, I learned my "ex" passed away from intracranial hemorrhages after a fall. My sympathies go out to to his current family. I also learned recently, that one other long term relationship I was involved in, also ended in death last March ... (Does that make me a widow???) But he died of cancer that could have been prevented, if he had listened to his doctors!)
