There once was a wise king who had a queen who was continually disappointed by her expectations not being met. The king had an idea and asked his queen to come to their chambers at midnight and he would try to help her. The queen agreed and wondered all day what her king could be planning. When she arrived at their chambers, she opened the door and found that the entire room was dark. It was so pitch black, that she could see nothing at all. The king called to her from across the room, “I am here. Don’t be afraid.” He then asked the queen to describe what she knew was in the room. The queen responded by describing where the bed was located, and a chest was “over there” and candlesticks were “on my right” and on and on. She described everything she could remember, and the queen had a very remarkable memory! The king then asked his queen to cross the room, following his voice. She was to keep herself from bumping into or knocking over anything in the room on her way to him. The queen shuffled her feet and gingerly walked, feeling her way through the ebony blackness, towards her king. When she had spent about 20 minutes trying to cross the room, there was a sudden burst of light as servants came in the chamber with torches glowing. The queen was amazed to see that there was NOTHING in the room. It was completely empty. She looked quizzically at her king and he explained: “You expected each of our chamber items to be exactly where you remembered it to be. Your willingness to move forward towards me (the thing she desired) was hindered by your expectations. If you had no expectations in regards to your quest, you would have been bolder in your steps. You might have stumbled or bruised yourself, but you would have learned something along the way.”
I can honestly say that I am attempting to eliminate all expectations at this point in my life. I want to see not only the bigger picture called “life” but I also want to see and know the canvas and the colors and the brushes and the painters. I want to become more involved with people while learning and sharing more of myself. I want to experience new and different things – sexually and non-sexually
To me, life is a journey that we all must take. Though we all start off at different times and in different directions, it’s when our paths cross or merge or veer towards another that we realize that we are not alone in our quest. We may have different goals that we seek. We may different methods of travel. Yet we all are part of the vast quest called “humanity”. I read a book some time ago “The Missing Piece” by Shel Silverstein. I mention this book because it simply and eloquently describes that although we may all be seeking that “perfect” companion to complete us, there are also many other people that we meet in our lives that accentuate and augment our lives in ways that a single person cannot.
I also believe that material things only clutter our world and make our journey more difficult. If you are seeking material gains from me or anyone else on this site, I believe you will find yourself continuing to want. Belief that fulfillment can actually come from external sources is a fantasy that can never be realized. You must seek what you desire within yourself. Once you do that, everything else will follow. As two wise travelers had expressed in earlier times….
A man's soul may be buried and perish under a dung heap or in a furrow of the field, just as well as under a pile of money.
~Nathaniel Hawthorne
He is rich or poor according to what he is, not according to what he has.
~Henry Ward Beecher
And at this time, I choose to live by the Four Agreements:
One - Be impeccable with your word
Two – Don’t take anything personally
Three – Don’t make any assumptions
Four – Always do your best
Reach out and tell someone what they mean to you RIGHT NOW, because when you decide that it is the right time it might be too late. Seize the day. CARPE DIEM! Never have regrets. And most importantly, stay close to your friends and family, for they have helped make you the person that you are today. If you love someone, tell them TODAY. If you want to know someone, reach out to them TODAY!
I hope that our paths will cross for at least a brief time. I hope to be able to call you my friend one day and I hope that you will one day call me a friend as well.
Best of luck to you all!
