So do you like hippies? Not sure that I am one, but years ago I would have had to be a very young hippie indeed. I am one of six and second to the youngest. Probably learned more than I needed from the older ones. I lived with an older brother that had a car with an American Flag painted on it and always wore his Billy Jack hat and had long hair. My other brother of course had long hair and enjoyed wearing those great bluejeans, you know the ones, you cut the sides out and add the extra material to make them elephant eared!... They were huge at the bottom. My mother couldn't stand it, said she could picture us walking around town scooping up the wino's spit with our pants legs. Seemed to take a little of the appeal away from it, but didn't stop us. My sisters and I were in charge of making the pants and cutting and fringing our clothing. I was one of the only ones who carried on the love of bandanas though and of course my hats. My older brother went on and joined the army so we had our share of MIA/POW bracelets and banners. I remember them hanging next to our Bobby Sherman, David Cassidy, The Jacksons and the Osmond posters, and of course the Make Love Not War and Bring home our Men, PEACE and many more posters and signs. I loved that time in my life. I loved the style and the feeling that I felt in my home. I felt very secure and safe then. I had parents that let me be me and they knew regardless that I would turn out to be a good person. I just can't seem to drop that time in my life and have the markings to prove it. You wouldn't believe what my car looks like! Anyway, as much as my children love me and are with me all the way in my individualism and theirs they know people judge me and them by these things. It's funny, I'm a good mom, have a great job for the last 26 years, don't do the drug scene, don't drink, very honest, open, loving, down to earth, and one of the most passionate people one could get to know. But there are just some that can't get around the obvious, you know, what they can see at the moment. A shame, but not worth my time. So with this little tid bit about me......
I will ask this.....if you can make time for me and know what it's like to enjoy even the small things in life. If you can be compassionate and caring. If you can make me smile and laugh. If you like to be stupid or downright goofy at times. If you can stand my love for sweet things and mountain dew. If you can stand that I like to dress a little different at times, meaning that I enjoyed the late 60's and 70's. If you can take my collection of hats, peace sign symbols, tye dye, do rags and Harley shirts, but have my collection of appropriate clothing for different occasions of course. I have been raised a city girl and couldn't wait to hide in the country. Do you love animals, even the stinky farm ones? If you have time to reflect and just enjoy life which is so hard to do at times. Then get to know me so I can get to know you and remember to smile today, oh come on, even a little one? See.....
