I'm a guy that was worn suits briefing top government officials in Washington while handling real problems there on 09/11. I feel more at ease working the Rio Grande border or Big Bend National Park wearing jeans and boots but am currently wearing a uniform in Iraq..
I plan to retire to a small town (airline nearby) or rural suburb of a larger town buying a place with a few acres. My ideal house would be kind of a small 3/2 but with large porches and patios to allow spending time outdoors. A barn or workshop is a must as it drives me crazy to pay someone to do something that I can do myself. We all have to make a living but life is too short to revolve around traffic and big city drama.
I grew up going to 9 schools in 12 years (4 states) but spent most summers on a dairy farm in the mountains of Western North Carolina. I spent 6 weeks sleeping in a tent while working Hurricane Katrina and Rita. l
normally can find more positive things about a situation than negative and can adapt to almost anything.
I recently retired and took a contract job teaching in Iraq for four months at a time. These detail jobs will supplement my income and allow me to still enjoy the nicer experiences in life. I relax by riding my Harley and working on a small horse ranch where I rent a place.
I have grown kids with grandkids and like to spend time with the grandkids. Perhaps it is an attempt to make up for the mass amounts of time that my work kept me away from the house when my kids were small. I'm a better grandfather than I was as a father. Experience has taught me that promotions, more money, buying big houses and living for the company should not have been my main priorities during the last 25 years. I'm am pretty stable with 25 years with the same company in eight duty stations. I like Texas and have managed to make 20 of those years in Texas with brief assignments in in four other states.
On a Sunday afternoon, I might be on a Harley ride out through the Sam Houston National forest or Lake Livingston ending around N. Houston on a outside patio with live music (Rock, Zydeco, Biues, Jazz or country) good food, good friends and a few beers. This ride could just a easily end, burning meat by the barn and watching the horses play by the pond with the XM radio on in the background. I could just as easy be enjoying the Smokey Mountains or the Florida Panhandle beaches.
I think everyone has some baggage (Positive-Negative life experiences) and I try not to let the negative ones out to hurt my daily attitudes.
I'm a low maintenance - no drama guy looking for a riding partner that is the same.
